En el Evangelio de Mateo de hoy nos llama a ser la sal de la tierra y la luz del mundo. Durante generaciones, la expresi\u00f3n \u201cla sal de la tierra\u201d ha sido un elogio ampliamente reconocido. A nuestros h\u00e9roes m\u00e1s admirados con frecuencia se les describe como \u201cluces brillantes\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tal vez demos por sentada la sal \u2014ese condimento barato que est\u00e1 sobre nuestras mesas\u2014, pero la gente del tiempo de Jes\u00fas ten\u00eda una apreciaci\u00f3n mucho mayor de su valor y de su simbolismo. La sal era necesaria para hacer comestibles los alimentos ins\u00edpidos y para conservar las carnes. Por eso lleg\u00f3 a simbolizar la pureza, la alegr\u00eda, la felicidad y la preservaci\u00f3n de la vida. El pueblo hebreo hac\u00eda con Dios una \u201calianza de sal\u201d, expresando su confianza en \u00c9l al esparcir sal sobre sus ofrendas. La sal se utilizaba como medio de intercambio en las antiguas rutas comerciales y, en algunas culturas, incluso como moneda. (La palabra <em>salario<\/em> proviene del lat\u00edn <em>sal<\/em>, que significa sal).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tanto la sal como la luz son elementos transformadores. Como cristianos, estamos llamados a transformar nuestro mundo, a hacerlo mejor.
