It\u2019s not like we haven\u2019t heard these words before.\u00a0 It\u2019s not like we don\u2019t begin each Season of Lent with good intentions to focus more intently on prayer, fasting and almsgiving. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:clamp(16.293px, 1.018rem + ((1vw - 3.2px) * 0.68), 25px);\">As I reflect on my plan for Lent I am realizing that in light of these words from scripture today, maybe I need to make more of an intentional effort to take seriously how Jesus is calling me to grow during this time of Prayer, Fasting and Almsgiving.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s easy to pray for those we love and care for and we feel blessed to know that they are praying for us as well. We live in a world of turmoil, crisis, violence and mistrust.\u00a0 It is hard to watch people suffer as a result of the disrespect shown to so many.\u00a0 We pray constantly for the victims. But I know in my heart of hearts we are also called to pray for the perpetrators, no matter how difficult!\u00a0 They are children of the same God we worship and deserve our prayers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This season of Lent calls us to FAST!&nbsp; It\u2019s one thing to fast from our favorite foods or social activities, but quite another to refrain from back-biting, judging, gossip that destroys another person.&nbsp; I can slide so easily down that slippery slope of knocking a person down instead of focusing on the good that may be harder to see.&nbsp; I must remember that God makes the sun to rise on the bad and the good and causes rain to fall on just and the unjust!&nbsp; Pope Francis reminded us often, \u201cWho am I to judge?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are many ways to give ALMS.\u00a0 I love to help people in need, always supporting the many food drives, blanket collections, and fundraisers of all sorts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile has-palette-color-5-background-color has-background\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Almsgiving also calls me to work to change the systems that keep people unjustly in need.\u00a0 I need to stand with others to rally against the injustices that permeate our communities and world around us.<\/p>\n<\/div><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"610\" height=\"330\" src=\"https:\/\/passionist.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Serving-Soup.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3525 size-full\" srcset=\"https:\/\/passionist.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Serving-Soup.jpg 610w, https:\/\/passionist.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Serving-Soup-300x162.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These actions all take courage, perseverance and commitment to live out our gospel values.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As we continue our Lenten journey maybe we should all feel a bit overwhelmed at what God is calling us to do.&nbsp;
