“A very solid scientific consensus indicates that we are presently witnessing a disturbing warming of the climatic system. In recent decades this warming has been accompanied by a constant rise in the sea level and, it would appear, by an increase of extreme weather events\u2026\u201d  <\/p>\nLaudato Si\u2019, 23<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

As we head into spring hurricane and storm season, members of the Social Action Ministry at St. Mary\u2019s Passionist Parish in Birmingham, AL, asked, \u201cHow can we prepare ourselves and our neighbors for the increasing severe weather events that we are experiencing?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their answer: organize a \u201cSevere Weather Awareness Day\u201d with local meteorologist Jordan West, from Channel 13 News!  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Held on Earth Day, the event was well attended by members of our three Passionist-staffed parishes, St. Mary\u2019s, Holy Family, and St. Joseph\u2019s, as well as members of the surrounding community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
