Worn over the heart by every vowed Passionist, it is far more than an emblem identifying a religious community. It is a visible reminder of a vocation and a daily invitation to keep alive the memory of the Passion of Jesus Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For Passionists, the Sign expresses the heart of our charism: proclaiming that the Passion of Jesus is the greatest revelation of God&#8217;s love for the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Born from a Vision<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The story of the Passionist Sign begins with our founder, St. Paul of the Cross.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One summer evening in 1720, while walking home after Mass in Castellazzo, Italy, he experienced a profound moment of prayer. At its center are the words <em>Jesu XPI Passio<\/em>\u2014&#8221;The Passion of Jesus Christ&#8221;\u2014written in Greek and Latin, the languages of the early Church.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The cross at the top and the three nails at the bottom recall Christ&#8217;s suffering and death. Yet they also point beyond Calvary to the hope of the Resurrection. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As St. Paul of the Cross taught, the Passion is not simply a story of suffering, but the greatest work of God&#8217;s love.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A Living Witness<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today, the Passionist Sign is recognized around the world.
