The \u201cteam\u201d of the prophet Jeremiah, Jesus, and St. John Vianney team up to personally bolster our 21<sup>st<\/sup> Century discipleship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Both Scripture readings are dramatic.\u00a0 Jeremiah is sent to witness hope to the people of Israel who had betrayed their faith and now faced serious military opposition; God lovingly reminds them \u201c\u2026you shall be my people, and I will be your God.\u201d\u00a0 In the Gospel selection Jesus preaches to multitudes, then Jesus sends His disciples by boat to the next ministry location as He pauses for prayer.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text is-stacked-on-mobile has-black-color has-palette-color-38-background-color has-text-color has-background has-link-color wp-elements-1\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/passionist.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Calming-the-Storm-sq.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12624 size-full\" srcset=\"https:\/\/passionist.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Calming-the-Storm-sq.jpg 400w, https:\/\/passionist.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Calming-the-Storm-sq-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/passionist.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Calming-the-Storm-sq-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/passionist.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Calming-the-Storm-sq-12x12.jpg 12w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While they made their way there a fierce storm repeatedly rocked their boat \u2013 and they were deathly afraid!\u00a0 Jesus comes towards them walking on the stormy waters; Peter tries to walk on the water towards Jesus, but his lack of faith causes him to sink\u2026and Jesus snatches him from the water!\u00a0 <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The result:\u00a0 the disciples\u2019 faith was strengthened, and Jesus continues his ministry to teach and heal.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today we are called to a deeper faith.&nbsp; We are to witness God\u2019s healing love by our lives \u2013 in all our humanness.&nbsp; Such was the case with the 19<sup>o<\/sup> Century saint we celebrate today:&nbsp; St. John Vianney.&nbsp; A simple parish priest, he served God\u2019s people in Ars, France.&nbsp; Flowing from his intense spiritual life based on prayer and mortification, John Vianney regularly spent long hours sharing God\u2019s love in the Sacrament of Reconciliation\u2026ministering to thousands of penitents who at times travelled great distances to share a few moments celebrating God\u2019s mercy, forgiveness and love in the Sacrament.&nbsp; He became the means God used to lovingly witness the transforming power of God\u2019s love.&nbsp; In 2009, Pope Benedict XVI named him patron of priests and parish clergy worldwide\u2026and we priests gratefully say \u201cyes!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Each of us are called to discipleship in a world in need of healing and hope.&nbsp; We may not have the personal gifts of Jeremiah or John Vianney \u2013 yet as women and men of faith we are invited to make the most of our strengths and weaknesses.&nbsp; A listening ear, a gentle smile, a kind thought, a simple prayer, an encouraging word or deed of affirmation or forgiveness:&nbsp;
