class=\"stk-block-subtitle__text stk-subtitle has-text-color\">The Exaltation of the Holy Cross<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We can move through much of life without fully sensing the quiet, transformative power held in those stone altars \u2014 beneath the lifelike, wounded body of Jesus, nailed and bleeding on the Cross. Yet for the contemplative heart, that image is not merely historical or symbolic. It is an invitation into the deepest mystery of love: a God who chooses suffering so that humanity might finally be free.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ancient peoples across the world believed that blood \u2014 the very essence of life \u2014 was required to reach the divine. It wasn\u2019t only the Israelites. For centuries, humanity intuited that something precious had to be surrendered, something living had to be offered. Their rituals, however imperfect, were attempts to bridge the aching distance between earth and heaven.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But God the Father ended that search by offering His own Son as the final sacrifice \u2014 the last life poured out on any altar, anywhere. On Golgotha, Jesus became the gift that would never need repeating. His suffering was not a demand for more blood, but the end of bloodshed itself. From that moment forward, humanity\u2019s redemption would rest not on fear, but on love.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today we celebrate the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. The Church, in her wisdom, places the Cross at the center of every sanctuary \u2014 the first thing our eyes meet, the truth we cannot avoid. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile has-palette-color-38-background-color has-background\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-1 wp-block-paragraph\">The suffering Christ calls us to pause, to breathe, and to contemplate the profound meaning of His gift: the defeat of death, and the unveiling of the path toward authentic joy.<\/p>\n<\/div><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"610\" height=\"330\" src=\"https:\/\/passionist.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/SPC-Chapel-Cross-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3537 size-full\" srcset=\"https:\/\/passionist.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/SPC-Chapel-Cross-2.jpg 610w, https:\/\/passionist.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/SPC-Chapel-Cross-2-300x162.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The priests of today are no longer butchers of animals. Their hands do not spill blood; they lift bread and wine. Since 33 C.E., the sacrifice offered at the altar has been the quiet, beautiful mystery of the Eucharist \u2014 the transformation of simple elements into the living presence of Christ. From \u201cMay the Lord accept the sacrifice at his hands\u2026\u201d to \u201cDo this in memory of me,\u201d we enter a sacred moment where heaven bends close to earth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And in that moment, we hope God is pleased. We ask Him to heal what is wounded within us. We remember the Last Supper, the agony of the Cross, and the radiant joy of the Resurrection. All of it converges in the stillness of the altar \u2014 where love, suffering, and hope meet.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today we celebrate the Exaltation of the Holy
