{"id":1873,"date":"2025-04-21T20:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-04-22T01:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wiga5ubklx.wpdns.site\/2025\/04\/21\/daily-scripture-april-22-2025\/"},"modified":"2025-04-21T20:00:00","modified_gmt":"2025-04-22T01:00:00","slug":"daily-scripture-april-22-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/passionist.org\/es\/2025\/04\/21\/daily-scripture-april-22-2025\/","title":{"rendered":"Daily Scripture, April 22, 2025"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/passionist.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Apr-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-33275\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Scripture:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/bible.usccb.org\/bible\/readings\/042225.cfm\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/bible.usccb.org\/bible\/readings\/042225.cfm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Acts 2:36-41<br>John 20:11-18<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Reflexi\u00f3n:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Most of Jesus\u2019 other disciples had run away, but not Mary Magdalene. She stayed with Him throughout his torture and gruesome death. So, she knew where he was buried. And, as she cared for His needs while he was alive, she was now concerned that He had a decent burial now that He was dead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So, when she and some other disciples found the tomb empty on Sunday morning, she was distraught. The indignity and trauma of Good Friday continued for Mary, as she feared someone had disturbed the tomb and moved the body.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In today\u2019s Gospel reading, we find Mary weeping at the empty tomb. And then she sees Someone in the Garden near the tomb. And we hear a tender conversation. Mary tells the gardener that, if he can tell her where the body is, she will move it back to where it belongs. But it is not the gardener; it is Jesus, whom she recognizes when he says her name \u201cMary\u201d. And of course she embraces Him in ecstatic relief. And He says to her:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cStop holding on to me,<\/em><em><br>for I have not yet ascended to the Father.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>But go to my brothers and tell them,<\/em><em><br>\u2018I am going to my Father and your Father,<br>to my God and your God.\u2019\u201d<br>Mary went and announced to the disciples,<br>\u201cI have seen the Lord,\u201d<br>and then reported what he had told her.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ever the disciple, Mary quickly reorients herself, and does what Jesus asks. As she grieves sharing Earthly life with Jesus as His friend and follower, she is transitioning to carrying His Spirit into the world. And she becomes the first witness to the resurrection!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In today\u2019s first reading from Acts of the Apostles, we hear from another disciple of Jesus, Peter, who is also witnessing to the resurrection. And the people who heard him were deeply touched. Luke, the author of the Acts of the Apostles, says the people who heard Peter were \u201ccut to the heart.\u201d And so, they asked Peter and the other apostles: \u201cWhat are we to do, my brothers?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In response, Peter tells them to \u201crepent\u201d, to turn their lives around.&nbsp; Peter wants them to take on the mind and the mission of Jesus, to have a spiritual conversion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In this Easter season, \u201cwhat are we to do?\u201d How do we witness to the resurrection in our life situations? How do we, who love Jesus, live out His mission? What does that look like?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Patty Gillis is a retired Pastoral Minister.
