{"id":1899,"date":"2025-03-26T20:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-03-27T01:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wiga5ubklx.wpdns.site\/2025\/03\/26\/daily-scripture-march-27-2025\/"},"modified":"2025-03-26T20:00:00","modified_gmt":"2025-03-27T01:00:00","slug":"daily-scripture-march-27-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/passionist.org\/es\/2025\/03\/26\/daily-scripture-march-27-2025\/","title":{"rendered":"Daily Scripture, March 27, 2025"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/passionist.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Jesus-Heals-Deaf-Mute.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-19512\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Scripture:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/bible.usccb.org\/bible\/readings\/032725.cfm\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/bible.usccb.org\/bible\/readings\/032725.cfm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Jeremiah 7:23-28<br>Luke 11:14-23<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Reflexi\u00f3n:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What does the Kingdom of God look like?&nbsp; Today\u2019s gospel tells us \u2013 or better, it shows us.&nbsp; \u201cJesus was driving out a demon that was mute, and when the demon had gone out, the mute man spoke, and the crowds were amazed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This exorcism led to a debate among the crowd: How did Jesus accomplish this wonder?&nbsp; Some rejected Jesus.&nbsp; Beelzebub, the prince of darkness, or literally \u201cLord of the Flies,\u201d must be the power behind Jesus\u2019 healing.&nbsp; In other words, demonic powers control Jesus, and therefore his healing is evil.&nbsp; Others took a wait and see attitude.&nbsp; We want more proof, they demanded.&nbsp; More miracles might persuade them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These two possibilities \u2013 reject Jesus or give more proof \u2013 summarize the reaction of many in the crowd, and of many even today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus took these arguments to their absurd conclusion.&nbsp; If Jesus casts out demons by Satan\u2019s hand, then by whose power do their own followers cast out demons?&nbsp; Did they really want to degrade the activity of their own exorcists by such logic?&nbsp; They were stuck in a dilemma.&nbsp; \u201cEvery kingdom divided against itself will be laid waste and house will fall against house,\u201d he argued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then Jesus offered another alternative, one he unveiled with dramatic flourish.&nbsp; \u201cBut if it is by the finger of God that I drive out demons,\u201d he said, \u201cthen the Kingdom of God has come upon you.\u201d&nbsp; Jesus is telling the crowd \u2013 and us \u2013 that his exorcism was not meant to astound, or amaze, or even to give proof of the existence of God.&nbsp; No.&nbsp; This and all the wonders he performs are testimony, evidence of the arrival of God\u2019s promised, redemptive rule.&nbsp; In Jesus, the Kingdom has arrived.&nbsp; God is breaking peacefully into this creation through Jesus to reclaim humanity from Satan\u2019s mute grip.&nbsp; Jesus\u2019 exorcism was loaded with theological meaning.&nbsp; Satan\u2019s power is the power to make mute, to silence.&nbsp; But Jesus\u2019 power is the power to exorcise us from Satan\u2019s silence so that we might boldly proclaim that the Kingdom is at hand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In this struggle between demonic silence and the proclamation of the Good News there is no neutral territory, no Switzerland.&nbsp; \u201cWhoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me, scatters.\u201d&nbsp; Jesus rejects fence-straddlers.&nbsp; He warns us that lukewarm neutrality is equivalent to opposition to him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today\u2019s gospel should remind us of the memorable remarks made by Nazi Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel.&nbsp; \u201cWe must take sides,\u201d Wiesel declared.&nbsp; \u201cNeutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim.&nbsp; Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.&nbsp; Sometimes we must interfere.\u201d&nbsp; To remain mute in the face of injustice, poverty, and discrimination is to be complicit with the forces of darkness.&nbsp; He summons us to interfere, to speak out on the side of the oppressed, the victim, the tormented.&nbsp;
