{"id":1955,"date":"2025-01-29T21:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-01-30T03:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wiga5ubklx.wpdns.site\/2025\/01\/29\/daily-scripture-january-30-2025\/"},"modified":"2025-01-29T21:00:00","modified_gmt":"2025-01-30T03:00:00","slug":"daily-scripture-january-30-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/passionist.org\/es\/2025\/01\/29\/daily-scripture-january-30-2025\/","title":{"rendered":"Daily Scripture, January 30, 2025"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/passionist.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Votive-Candles.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/passionist.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Votive-Candles.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11586\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Scripture:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/bible.usccb.org\/bible\/readings\/013025.cfm\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/bible.usccb.org\/bible\/readings\/013025.cfm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Hebrews 10:19-25<br>Mark 4:21-25<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Reflexi\u00f3n:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Yesterdays, Today, and the Hope for Tomorrows<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s been a month since the start of 2025.\u00a0 It seems like a lifetime, to me.\u00a0 If you made any resolutions, how are you doing with them?\u00a0 Most of the new people I saw walking or running by the house on January 1<sup>st<\/sup> have long since stopped.\u00a0 It\u2019s hard trying to be better than we\u2019ve become \u2013 to make positive changes and make them stick.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It was my birthday a few days ago.&nbsp; It\u2019s interesting having a birthday less than a month from the start of the New Year because, for me, I become very introspective at both times.&nbsp; Getting close to January 1<sup>st<\/sup>, I tend to look back at the past 365 and examine who I\u2019ve become and the ways I\u2019ve failed being the good man I want to be.&nbsp; But then around my birthday I look at the short stretch of the last 28 days, and how I want to look at the next year of my life, should I be blessed to live that long <em>(I sure hope so\u2026 I want to see my little girl grow, and I also need to mow that lawn)<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There\u2019s a lot in our scripture today that I\u2019d like to write on, but I think there\u2019s one underlying message and likely something we\u2019ve all heard many times.&nbsp; These three passages, I think, sum it up:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Psalm 24:1-2,3-4ab, 5-6&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <em>\u201dLord, this is the people that longs to see your face.\u201d<\/em><br>\nHebrews 10:19-25&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <em>\u201dWe must consider how to rouse one another to love.\u201d<br>\n<\/em>Mark 4:21-25&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <em>\u201cIs a lamp brought in to be placed under a bushel basket?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yes, I know they\u2019re out of Liturgical Order, but bear with me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Psalm:&nbsp; Our world needs to see God\u2019s face.&nbsp; The polarization of our country and society, our world, is so apparent and acute.&nbsp; There are so many good people, and yet every night we see such visions of horror on the nightly news .&nbsp; Take a moment to look past our current political climate and you\u2019ll see a three-year-old boy sitting stunned and bloodied in an ambulance.&nbsp; The body of an innocent child washed up on the shore.&nbsp; Young girls kidnapped en masse and forced to be \u201cwives\u201d to their captors. We see the funerals of children killed in urban gang wars.&nbsp; We see the anguish of their mothers who could not keep them safe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And we run out of tears.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The author of the Letter to the Hebrews writes \u201cWe must consider how to rouse one another to love.&nbsp; We should not stay away from our assembly.\u201d <em>(Hebrews 10:24a, 25a)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">How?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The horror that\u2019s happening in our world today is frightening.&nbsp; Looking at this every day makes it extremely difficult to not feel as though what little good you or I can do would make much difference.&nbsp; As one family under God, I just can\u2019t believe the things we do to each other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And in our homes\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The way we treat those we love most is, perhaps, the most frightening to me of all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mark quotes Jesus for us today, who implores us to place our light <em>not<\/em> under a basket to be hidden, but on a stand to shine before all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You might say, \u201cBut I\u2019m just one person and a world of billions!\u201d&nbsp; I agree.&nbsp; You are one person in a world of billions.&nbsp; And most won\u2019t see you.&nbsp; But \u201cyou know who\u201d does.&nbsp; And so do the people you interact with every day!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>WE<\/em> can change the world!&nbsp; It can start in our own families and with our friends\u2026 something as simple as a smile can change the course of someone\u2019s day.&nbsp; And maybe that person will change the way they treat someone else\u2026 and so on.&nbsp; And all because of you.&nbsp; The light of your one candle and fire the light of one more, and from the sharing of the light with each other, billions can be lit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As community in this way, we must be willing to accompany each other on the road.&nbsp; We can\u2019t hate and scorn, hurt and murder, turn a blind eye to all we abhor in the world.&nbsp; We simply have to carry God\u2019s love and compassion to others through our service to them.&nbsp; We must be the change we want to see in the world.&nbsp; We live and proclaim Christ, crucified and risen, by the way we live our lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Friends, now is the time. Now is the time to make good on that resolution.&nbsp; We can do it if we do it together.&nbsp; Let\u2019s infect each person we see with our love and our faith, our care and our hope.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Let\u2019s be the best bible anyone has <em>ever<\/em> read.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dear God, thank you for the gift of eternal life with you.<br>\nPlease grant us the grace to carry your mercy, compassion, and love to all.<br>\nTo <em>all<\/em>.&nbsp;&nbsp;Amen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Paul Puccinelli is Director of Liturgy &amp;
