\u201cIt\u2019s the final hour.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One thing that comes to my imagination is the writers and editors of the Lectionary all sitting around a big table, worn from working into the wee hours of the morning, empty carafes of coffee and donut crumbs laying all over the place.&nbsp; Some guy is asleep under the table, I\u2019m pretty sure.&nbsp; \u201cThey\u2019ll need to be reminded that it\u2019s the last day of the year.&nbsp; Let\u2019s use I John 2:18.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Perhaps they\u2019re right.&nbsp; Thanksgiving, Advent, Christmas&#8230;. The time has raced by for me.&nbsp; The Baptist\u2019s cry of \u201cPrepare Ye the Way\u201d has now become \u201cI hope you\u2019ve prepared the way.\u201d &nbsp;And now I feel a lot like I imagine those editors: weary from a long stretch of preparation and service.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And now it\u2019s New Year\u2019s Eve!&nbsp; Party and dance and music and eggnog (with a little extra nog, please).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text is-stacked-on-mobile has-palette-color-38-background-color has-background\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"610\" height=\"330\" src=\"https:\/\/passionist.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Man-Sitting-at-Sunset.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3419 size-full\" srcset=\"https:\/\/passionist.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Man-Sitting-at-Sunset.jpg 610w, https:\/\/passionist.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Man-Sitting-at-Sunset-300x162.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-1 wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:clamp(17.371px, 1.086rem + ((1vw - 3.2px) * 0.752), 27px);\">As I sit and reflect on the past 365 days, I\u2019m forced to ask myself some very, very hard questions:<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Did I make room for God?&nbsp; Did I let Christ thrive in my heart?&nbsp; Did I reach out in love and care to others?&nbsp; Did I call to apologize to that person that now hates me?&nbsp; Did I forgive that person that betrayed me?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Was I Jesus\u2019 hands to those in my little part of the vineyard?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Were you?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mistakes are part of living life as humans\u2026 but Jesus gives us the most basic instruction: \u201cLove as I have loved.\u201d&nbsp; And, dear friends, if we can do that, we have a good shot at a wonderful New Year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-palette-color-5-background-color has-background wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Dear God of beginnings and endings,<br>the Alpha and Omega,<br>thank you for the gift of every hour,<br>even this last one.&nbsp;<br><br>Please grant us the grace to let go of our regrets and failures<br>so we may live the new dawn of tomorrow,<br>and birth your love to the world.&nbsp;
