{"id":2033,"date":"2024-11-13T00:51:10","date_gmt":"2024-11-13T06:51:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wiga5ubklx.wpdns.site\/2024\/11\/13\/daily-scripture-november-13-2024\/"},"modified":"2024-11-13T00:51:10","modified_gmt":"2024-11-13T06:51:10","slug":"daily-scripture-november-13-2024","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/passionist.org\/es\/2024\/11\/13\/daily-scripture-november-13-2024\/","title":{"rendered":"Daily Scripture, November 13, 2024"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Scripture:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/bible.usccb.org\/bible\/readings\/111324.cfm\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/bible.usccb.org\/bible\/readings\/111324.cfm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Titus 3:1-7<br>Luke 17:11-19<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Reflexi\u00f3n:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignright size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/passionist.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Nov-13.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-35989\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We continue today with the gospel of St. Luke in the section referred to as Jesus\u2019 \u201cJourney to Jerusalem.\u201d This is an important narrative, featuring several stories found only in Luke, today\u2019s gospel is one example.&nbsp; The Cleansing of the Ten Lepers is a familiar tale, and reading these verses, I find that my tendency to elevate and praise the <em>one<\/em> who returned glorifying God and to think of the other <em>nine<\/em> as ungrateful has often been my default reaction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Taking a closer look at the text, \u201c<em>And one of them, <u>realizing<\/u> he had been healed, returned <\/em>. . . (V.15<em>)<\/em>, might suggest that the others had yet to realize their healing. How can we be sure that they may not have come back? We do know that the <em>one<\/em> who returned was a Samaritan\u2014a foreigner. A motif of Luke\u2019s gospel is that faith and salvation are not limited to the Jewish people but are universal and available to all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Regardless of the circumstances, we are presented with a story that honors the virtue of gratitude. Realizing that he is healed, the Samaritan moves directly to glorify the healing God\u2014in Jesus. Actions that bring about his salvation, as Jesus states, \u201c. . . <em>your faith has saved you.\u201d V.19b<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Over the years, I have wondered how anyone could not return to say thank you for being healed of such a horrendous disease. I can fool myself into thinking that in the same circumstances, I would come back glorifying God in a loud voice! Amen, and so would you\u2014right! We would shout it from the rooftops to imagine the liberation, the freedom to be back with our loved ones and walk the roads confidently, no longer having to yell \u201c<em>unclean<\/em>\u201d ever again! Fortunately, I won\u2019t be put to that test.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thanks to medicine, healing from leprosy is no longer necessary as in ancient times. Yet, seen or unseen, we all have some type of l<em>eprosy<\/em> that needs God\u2019s healing touch. Certainly, modern-day <em>leprosy<\/em> can take many forms. Those things in life that take us in the wrong direction and away from where we truly desire to go are very defeating. Being quick to judge can be one of mine\u2014one among many.&nbsp; That seems to be our human condition, yet one we can continue to work on in our day-to-day living as we become more aware. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In St. Paul\u2019s letter to Titus from our first reading, he suggests a pastoral approach to dealing with our various <em>leprosies<\/em>. Titus is to remind his community to \u201c<em>be open to every good enterprise<\/em>\u201d remembering \u201c<em>to be peaceable, considerate, exercising all graciousness towards everyone<\/em>.\u201d (Vs.1-2) However, Paul is careful to point out that \u201c<em>we ourselves were once that foolish. . . deluded, slaves to various desires and pleasures.\u201d<\/em> (v.3)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For Paul, the difference is God\u2019s merciful and generous love in Jesus, our savior, who freely offers unmerited grace and the opportunity to inherit eternal life\u2014regardless of our <em>leprosies<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Therefore, let us be patient with ourselves and each other as we journey in faith, reflecting on how God has blessed us. Let gratitude be our aim in this season of Thanksgiving and every season.
