{"id":2086,"date":"2024-09-20T20:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-09-21T01:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wiga5ubklx.wpdns.site\/2024\/09\/20\/daily-scripture-september-21-2024\/"},"modified":"2024-09-20T20:00:00","modified_gmt":"2024-09-21T01:00:00","slug":"daily-scripture-september-21-2024","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/passionist.org\/es\/2024\/09\/20\/daily-scripture-september-21-2024\/","title":{"rendered":"Daily Scripture, September 21, 2024"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/passionist.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Sept-21.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-35198\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The Feast of St. Matthew, Apostle<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Scripture:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/bible.usccb.org\/bible\/readings\/092124.cfm\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/bible.usccb.org\/bible\/readings\/092124.cfm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ephesians 4:1-7, 11-13<br>Matthew: 9:9-13<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Reflexi\u00f3n:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>And as he sat at dinner in the house, many tax collectors and sinners came and were sitting with Jesus and his disciples.&nbsp; <\/em>-Matthew 9:11<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Have you ever gone to a dinner party and people wondered why certain \u201cunsavory\u201d persons were invited? Before Matthew became a disciple of Jesus, he was a tax collector. Tax collectors were despised because they worked for the Roman government and they collected taxes from their people, often times dishonestly. Mathew invited a number of his friends and acquaintances to his dinner party.&nbsp; The righteous Pharisees got upset with Jesus associating with them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When confronted by the Pharisees, Jesus responds: \u201cThose who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. (Mt. 9:13) Go and learn what he means, \u201cI desire mercy, not sacrifice.\u201d Jesus desires a merciful heart. All of us need God\u2019s mercy due to our sins, faults, and failings. We need the mercy of others, and we need to provide mercy to others. (Sacred Space https:\/\/sacredspace.com\/scripture\/matthew-99-13\/<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mercy is showing compassion to someone in distress. It can also mean the act of forgiving or being kind. Jesus is calling each of us to be persons of mercy: gentle, loving, forgiving going out of our way to assist others in need. On this feast day of St. Matthew, let us take some time to reflect and look honestly at my life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To what degree do I realize I need God\u2019s help in my life?
