{"id":2114,"date":"2024-08-23T20:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-08-24T01:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wiga5ubklx.wpdns.site\/2024\/08\/23\/daily-scripture-august-24-2024\/"},"modified":"2024-08-23T20:00:00","modified_gmt":"2024-08-24T01:00:00","slug":"daily-scripture-august-24-2024","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/passionist.org\/es\/2024\/08\/23\/daily-scripture-august-24-2024\/","title":{"rendered":"Daily Scripture, August 24, 2024"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/passionist.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/Aug-24.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-34893\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Scripture:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/bible.usccb.org\/bible\/readings\/082424.cfm\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/bible.usccb.org\/bible\/readings\/082424.cfm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Revelation 21:9b-14<br>John 1:45-51<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Reflexi\u00f3n:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Come to Me<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In most Eucharist liturgies a Psalm is presented to us as response to the Scriptural readings.&nbsp; In the feast of the apostle Bartholomew, we find this beautiful quote of Ps 145:18: The Lord is near to all who call upon Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To all who call upon Him in truth.&nbsp; He will fulfill the desire of those who fear Him.\u201d&nbsp; The inspired Hebrew word for near is <em>q\u0101r\u00f4b. <\/em>\u201cBasically<em>,<\/em> the word denotes being or coming into the most near and intimate proximity of the object (or subject). A secondary meaning entails actual contact with the object.\u201d <em>Strong 2065<\/em>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The smartest thing Bartholomew ever did in his life was to come to Jesus!&nbsp; This proximity changed his life.&nbsp; We still remember someone who met Jesus 2000 years ago!&nbsp; We talk a lot about legacy today.&nbsp; Believe me, the only legacy we will ever have is our closeness to Jesus!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I often think of another young man in the Gospels who came to Jesus.&nbsp; He was an ideal vocational prospect! Jesus loved what He saw. &nbsp;\u201cLooking at him, Jesus felt a love for him and said to him, one thing you lack: go and sell all you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.\u201d &nbsp;Mk 10:21 Like Bartholomew, this was the invitation of a lifetime! \u201cBut at these words, he was saddened, and he went away grieving, for he was one who owned much property.<sup>\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/sup>Believe me:&nbsp; No legacy for him!&nbsp; We don\u2019t even know his name!&nbsp; \u201cHe went away grieving.\u201d&nbsp;To leave Jesus is the greatest loss and sadness of our lives!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Our prayer life can be simply understood as coming to Jesus!&nbsp; \u201cCome to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. MT 11:28 One of the most beautiful and frequent words for prayer in the New Testament is the Greek word <em>parakaleo. <\/em>It occurs 105 times in Scripture. It means<em> kaleo<\/em>, which means to call and para around or close.&nbsp;&nbsp; Come to Jesus without too much fuss!&nbsp; \u201cThe Lord is near to all who call upon Him\u201d Ps 145<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Fr.
