{"id":2127,"date":"2024-08-10T21:08:36","date_gmt":"2024-08-11T02:08:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wiga5ubklx.wpdns.site\/2024\/08\/10\/daily-scripture-august-11-2024\/"},"modified":"2024-08-10T21:08:36","modified_gmt":"2024-08-11T02:08:36","slug":"daily-scripture-august-11-2024","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/passionist.org\/es\/2024\/08\/10\/daily-scripture-august-11-2024\/","title":{"rendered":"Daily Scripture, August 11, 2024"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/passionist.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/Aug-11.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-34791\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Scripture:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/bible.usccb.org\/bible\/readings\/081124.cfm\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/bible.usccb.org\/bible\/readings\/081124.cfm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">1 Kings 19:4-8<br>Ephesians 4:30-5:2<br>John 6:41-51<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Reflexi\u00f3n:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>The Jews mumbled about Jesus because he said, \u2018I am the bread of life that came down from heaven.\u2019<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To understand today\u2019s gospel, part of the Bread of Life discourse, we must hear its echoes in two key themes.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">First, the allusion to the grumbling Israelites in their 40-year wilderness trek, sustained by manna from heaven, is parallel to the Jews grumbling near Capernaum after they have seen Jesus feed the 5,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Second, Jesus, the bread of life that came down from heaven, alludes to the evangelist John\u2019s majestic prologue to his gospel: \u201cAnd the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.\u201d (Jn 1:14).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By way of background to today\u2019s gospel, Jesus earlier had fed the 5,000 who were in a deserted area after he had taught them (Jn 1:1-15).&nbsp; But the Jews had failed to see the significance of the miracle.&nbsp; Jesus had offered to meet their deepest needs, but they were more concerned about their bellies.&nbsp; Thanks to Moses, \u201cOur fathers ate manna in the wilderness,\u201d they reminded Jesus.&nbsp; Can you do as much as Moses?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This exchange between Jesus and the crowd recalls how the Israelites in the wilderness grumbled for food until Moses fed them manna.&nbsp; They were sustained by the manna until they reached the Promised Land.&nbsp; Jesus corrected them.&nbsp; It was not Moses, but God who gave them bread from heaven.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI am the bread of life,\u201d Jesus declared to the crowd.&nbsp; \u201cYour ancestors ate the manna in the desert, but they died.&nbsp; I am the living bread that came down from heaven so that one may eat and not die\u201d (Jn 6:48-50).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Those gospel themes\u2014grumbling in the wilderness and Jesus as the bread of life that came down from heaven\u2014should resonate in our own lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We too are challenged throughout our lives to walk the long walk in the wilderness.&nbsp; Will we grumble and complain?&nbsp; Or will we place our radical trust in God who will sustain us in difficult times?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Can we see that God in Jesus feeds us every day, even and especially in our wilderness moments?&nbsp;
