{"id":2134,"date":"2024-08-03T20:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-08-04T01:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wiga5ubklx.wpdns.site\/2024\/08\/03\/daily-scripture-august-4-2024\/"},"modified":"2024-08-03T20:00:00","modified_gmt":"2024-08-04T01:00:00","slug":"daily-scripture-august-4-2024","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/passionist.org\/es\/2024\/08\/03\/daily-scripture-august-4-2024\/","title":{"rendered":"Daily Scripture, August 4, 2024"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/passionist.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/Aug-4.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-34729\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Scripture:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/bible.usccb.org\/bible\/readings\/080424.cfm\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/bible.usccb.org\/bible\/readings\/080424.cfm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Exodus 16:2-4,12-15<br>Ephesians 4:7, 20-24<br>John 6:24-35<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Reflexi\u00f3n:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>A Hearty Appetite for the Lord<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The readings for the 18<sup>o<\/sup> Sunday in Ordinary time stretch our faith using a very familiar human reality:&nbsp; food.&nbsp; The selection from Exodus shares how the people grumbled again God in their famine while in exile \u2013 and God supplied food in the form of quail and manna.&nbsp; The Gospel selection from John 6 relates Jesus dealing with the crowds who were amazed by his miracle of the multiplication of the loaves of bread &#8212; while He wanted to share with them \u201cfood\u201d which endues for eternal life\u2026Himself!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today\u2019s readings suggest that, for the people of early Bible times, the way to their hearts was through their stomachs.&nbsp; The Israelites grumbled against Moses and Aaron because of their hunger \u2013 but things miraculously changed.&nbsp; In the Gospel, Jesus had an eager audience after multiplying the bread, but they seemed to \u201cgrab\u201d more than listen\u2026they wanted more bread!&nbsp; So, Jesus challenged them:&nbsp; faith is more than the manna of the past, falling from heaven\u2026Jesus Himself is the Bread of Life!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The recent Eucharistic Revival and the Congress have helped us celebrate Jesus giving Himself to us as our Life and Nourishment, though we be unworthy.&nbsp; Jesus seeks to spark our \u201cappetite\u201d for Him, as He meets both our human and our spiritual hungers.&nbsp; Jesus touches our lives and nourishes us along the varied \u201chighways\u201d of life; as hungry people when we encounter Him in the celebration the Mass, and in special times of prayer with Him in the Blessed Sacrament.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The recent Olympics featured cheerleaders and excited crowds to help motivate both the competitors and us.&nbsp; St. Paul, in today\u2019s 2nd reading, is our cheerleader, encouraging us to have a greater \u201cappetite\u201d for Jesus.&nbsp; We are to \u201cput away our old selves and our old way of living\u201d and be renewed in spirit and mind, putting on a new self created in God\u2019s way of righteousness and holiness.&nbsp; St. Paul did this for so many in his missionary journeys and letters, and he today challenges us to deeper life and faith in Jesus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Those early listeners and prospective believers in Jesus had \u201cfaith\u201d in the bread they received, and not so much in Jesus.&nbsp; Today, WE have Jesus Himself \u2013 \u201cThe Real Thing\u201d, as an advertisement once proclaimed.&nbsp; Jesus wants to share in our life\u2019s journey, to nourish us along the way, and to help fulfill our lives.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Let\u2019s be grateful for the gift of our faith, for Jesus Who is the Bread of Life.&nbsp; May our \u201cappetite\u201d for the Jesus continue to grow these summer days, as He assures us that He \u201c\u2026is the Bread of Life and that whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst\u2026\u201d&nbsp; Jesus is our True Friend, our Life\u2026and that\u2019s fantastic!!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Fr.
