{"id":2206,"date":"2024-05-21T20:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-05-22T01:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wiga5ubklx.wpdns.site\/2024\/05\/21\/daily-scripture-may-22-2024\/"},"modified":"2024-05-21T20:00:00","modified_gmt":"2024-05-22T01:00:00","slug":"daily-scripture-may-22-2024","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/passionist.org\/es\/2024\/05\/21\/daily-scripture-may-22-2024\/","title":{"rendered":"Daily Scripture, May 22, 2024"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/passionist.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/May-22.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-33780\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Scripture:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/bible.usccb.org\/bible\/readings\/052224.cfm\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/bible.usccb.org\/bible\/readings\/052224.cfm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">James 4:13-17<br>Mark 9:38-40<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Reflexi\u00f3n:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes, the readings for the day are so descriptive of human foibles that they make the gospels leap off the page, becoming so real to me that I seem to recognize people I actually know.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today\u2019s readings show the disciples \u201ctattling\u201d to Jesus that there is another man in the district who has the unmitigated temerity to cast out demons without being a follower of Jesus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Christ replies, in essence, that \u201cthe enemy of my enemy is my friend\u201d.&nbsp; John has barred a certain man from casting out demons, which our Savior makes clear is a wrong way of thinking about being one of His followers.&nbsp; Discipleship is not an appointed position that grants special authority or social position.&nbsp; It does not grant one status above others who may be doing good works in Jesus\u2019 name but are perhaps not of our faith or community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There have been times when I have felt jealousy for being passed over for appointed positions or not being selected for a particular award or recognition.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Or perhaps I have been skeptical of people who are not Catholic or not Christian, who claim a special relationship with you.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lord, forgive me for the humility I have lacked and teach me acceptance of others in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.&nbsp; Amen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Ray Alonzo is the father of three children, grandfather of two,\u00a0and husband to Jan for over45 years.
