Although I didn\u2019t always understand what the titles or epithets for Our Lady meant, I was intrigued by phrases like \u201cSeat of Wisdom, Star of the Sea, Cause of our Joy, or Refuge of Sinners.\u201d \u201cTower of Ivory\u201d and \u201cHouse of Gold,\u201d however, had me muddled!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today\u2019s readings invite us to ponder yet another attribute of Mary. Yes, she is the \u201cArc of the Covenant\u201d and \u201cMystical Rose,\u201d but today Mary is <em>Theotokos<\/em>, she who said a total \u201cYes\u201d to God!&nbsp; I have always reverenced how Mary agreed to something she didn\u2019t understand. When she questions the angel within the mystery of Annunciation, how this might happen \u2014 embracing motherhood without being in a relationship \u2014 Gabriel responds that God will overshadow her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As a good Jewess, Mary understood the \u201ccloudy\u201d or overshadowing ways God works. When Moses sought to see God \u201cface to face,\u201d for example, God responds, \u201cNo,\u201d because the intensity of divine presence would sear Moses\u2019 imagination. Moses could not see God and live. So Mary says \u201cYes\u201d to a power, a hope, a potentiality that she couldn\u2019t even imagine!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">How often it seems that God is working in cloudy, overshadowing ways! Why do so many people resist the reality of global warming? Why does economic disparity continue to increase globally? How can such violence continue within gangs and drug lords?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gate of Heaven, pray for us!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Fr.
