{"id":2293,"date":"2024-02-16T03:17:34","date_gmt":"2024-02-16T09:17:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wiga5ubklx.wpdns.site\/2024\/02\/16\/daily-scripture-february-16-2024\/"},"modified":"2024-02-16T03:17:34","modified_gmt":"2024-02-16T09:17:34","slug":"daily-scripture-february-16-2024","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/passionist.org\/es\/2024\/02\/16\/daily-scripture-february-16-2024\/","title":{"rendered":"Daily Scripture, February 16, 2024"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Scripture:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/bible.usccb.org\/bible\/readings\/021624.cfm\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/bible.usccb.org\/bible\/readings\/021624.cfm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Isaiah 58:1-9a<br>Matthew 9:14-15<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Reflexi\u00f3n:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignright size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/passionist.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/Feb-16.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-32427\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Our Lenten season began with the prophet Joel\u2019s exhortation to \u201crend your hearts, not your garments.\u201d The challenge to \u201cfast\u201d stares us once again in the face and confronts us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The children of Israel are indeed performing the outward acts of devotions and prayers to God. However, to the examining eye, their hearts are indeed far from God. The fasts end in quarreling and sunken faces. The outward actions are not drawing them closer to God and to each other. Why? Because they lack pure heart and pure intention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When I go out to assist at mass, inevitably, people are interested in my vocation story. They ask, \u201cWhy did you become a Passionist? Why did you become a priest?\u201d There is also an iteration of \u201cOh you must be very passion-ate. I say, \u201cI hope so and I hope that passion bleeds through.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I can say I joined the Passionists because I saw passion-ate Passionists. The Passionist family, the laity and the vowed, were dedicated to their ministries. They preached Christ Crucified and were made themselves present to the People of God, loving them. The Passion of Jesus bled in their hearts and continues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a special way this Lenten season, God is calling us to be passionate. Lord, help us to be passionate Passionists! May these pillars of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving come from our heart and bleed through to the ministries and the people we serve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Fr.
