{"id":2316,"date":"2024-01-23T01:24:42","date_gmt":"2024-01-23T07:24:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wiga5ubklx.wpdns.site\/2024\/01\/23\/daily-scripture-january-24-2024\/"},"modified":"2024-01-23T01:24:42","modified_gmt":"2024-01-23T07:24:42","slug":"daily-scripture-january-24-2024","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/passionist.org\/es\/2024\/01\/23\/daily-scripture-january-24-2024\/","title":{"rendered":"Daily Scripture, January 24, 2024"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/passionist.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Jan-24.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-32068\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Scripture:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/bible.usccb.org\/bible\/readings\/012424.cfm\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/bible.usccb.org\/bible\/readings\/012424.cfm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2 Samuel 7:4-17<br>Mark 4:1-20<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Reflexi\u00f3n:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Listening to the Word<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cAnd he began again to teach by the seaside.\u201d &nbsp;&nbsp;<\/em>Today\u2019s Gospel begins at the sea of Galilee in Mark\u2019s 4<sup>o<\/sup> chapter.&nbsp; This area is a good farming region and from the lakeside the people listening could see the farmer sowing the seed. <em>Speiro<\/em>\u2014 \u2018to sow\u201d is the Greek word which means to scatter seed over tilled ground.&nbsp; &nbsp;It seems to us today a wasteful way of planting. \u201cAnd as he sowed, some seed fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured it\u201d Paths ran through the growing plants so people could help the growth and harvest it.&nbsp;&nbsp; These paths are hardened by traffic and crushed by treading feet!&nbsp; The plants are destroyed without being productive.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus often tells us in different ways in the Gospels to be careful how you hear the Word. Expressions like \u201csee how you hear\u201d \u201cHe has ears let him hear.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp; In Mt 13:19 Jesus explains: \u201cWhen anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil <em>one<\/em> comes and snatches away what has been sown in his heart. This is the one on whom seed was sown around the road.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Greek word to \u201cunderstand\u201dis<em> \u201csun-he\u2019ame\u201d <\/em>which literally means \u201c<em>to send together.\u201d&nbsp; <\/em>It is used 26 times in the New Testament.&nbsp; \u201cAnd he called the people to him again and said to them, \u201cHear me, all of you, and <em>understand<\/em>\u201d MK 7:14 &nbsp;&nbsp;We hear the powerful Word of God but for a lot of us it is not effective as it should be for two big reasons. First, we don\u2019t \u201c<em>to send together\u201d or understand it.&nbsp; <\/em>When Jesus told His apostles about His upcoming suffering and death, they could not grasp it.&nbsp; \u201cBut they <em>understood<\/em> none of these things. This saying was hidden from them, and they did not grasp what was said.\u201d Lk 18:34&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A second reason why we cannot feel the whole impact of the Word is not just absence of understanding but also hardness of heart.&nbsp; \u201cWhat has been sown in his heart\u201d in Mt and in Mk \u201cAnd these are the ones along the path, where the word is sown: when they hear, Satan immediately comes and takes away the word <strong>that is sown in them.\u201d<\/strong>The phrase \u201csown in them\u201d has the same meaning that Matthew called \u201cthe heart\u201d.&nbsp; We all need the Great Cardiologist, Jesus, to soften our hearts so we can absorb the Word of His great Love!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Fr.
