{"id":2401,"date":"2023-10-23T20:00:00","date_gmt":"2023-10-24T01:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wiga5ubklx.wpdns.site\/2023\/10\/23\/daily-scripture-october-24-2023\/"},"modified":"2023-10-23T20:00:00","modified_gmt":"2023-10-24T01:00:00","slug":"daily-scripture-october-24-2023","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/passionist.org\/es\/2023\/10\/23\/daily-scripture-october-24-2023\/","title":{"rendered":"Daily Scripture, October 24, 2023"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/passionist.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Oct-24.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-31171\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Scripture:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/bible.usccb.org\/bible\/readings\/102423.cfm\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/bible.usccb.org\/bible\/readings\/102423.cfm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Romans 5:12, 15b, 17-19, 20b-21<br>Luke 12:35-38<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Reflexi\u00f3n:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Welcoming Jesus<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A new word in our modern English is \u201cwoke\u201d.&nbsp;&nbsp; It means a person is awake but with an extreme connotation to left wing philosophy.&nbsp;&nbsp; I love the word \u201cwoke\u201d but not the strong modern nuance!&nbsp; The Gospel today beautifully shows us we must stay awake to the coming of Jesus!&nbsp; Jesus was two thousand years ahead of our modern implication of this word,\u201cwoke\u201d!&nbsp; We are chosen \u201cwoke\u201d people that Christ is everything in our lives!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the Gospels Jesus tells us many times with different words to stay awake to His coming! &nbsp;\u201cBe like men who are waiting for their master when he returns from the wedding feast\u201d Lk 12:36) The word in the original Greek text for wait is <em>prosdechomai <\/em>which means a lot more than waiting!&nbsp; The biblical word comes from <em>\u201cdexomai\u201d <\/em>whichmeans to welcome.&nbsp; It adds the preposition \u201cpro\u201d to welcome which means a very strong attitude and emphasis of yearning or longing.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;For example, Jesus is criticized by the Pharisees and the scribes: \u201cThis man welcomes<strong> (<\/strong><em>prosdechomai)<\/em><strong> <\/strong>sinners and eats with them.\u201d Lk 15:2&nbsp;&nbsp; He receives them with understanding and deep love as a doctor to save people afflicted with the deadly cancer of sin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In today\u2019s Gospel we are to be like people with an intense loving expectation of the coming of Jesus\u2019 A beautiful example of this in Lk 2:26\u2019&nbsp; \u201cNow there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon, and this man was righteous and devout, waiting <strong>(<\/strong><em>prosdechomai)<\/em><strong> <\/strong>for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him.\u201d&nbsp; Simeon was among the first \u201cwoke\u201d ones like the shepherds and Magi to receive Jesus in His arms like Mary and Joseph!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We must welcome Jesus \u201clike men who are waiting <em>prosdechomai<\/em>for their master when he returns from the wedding feast, so that they may immediately open <em>the door<\/em> to him when he comes and knocks\u201d (Lk 12:35) ! Karl Rahner beautifully expresses welcoming Jesus: \u201cWe\u2019re actually, really, dealing with Jesus only when we throw our arms around Him and realize right down to the bottom of our being that this is something we can still do today.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Fr.
