{"id":2455,"date":"2023-08-30T20:00:00","date_gmt":"2023-08-31T01:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wiga5ubklx.wpdns.site\/2023\/08\/30\/daily-scripture-august-31-2023\/"},"modified":"2023-08-30T20:00:00","modified_gmt":"2023-08-31T01:00:00","slug":"daily-scripture-august-31-2023","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/passionist.org\/es\/2023\/08\/30\/daily-scripture-august-31-2023\/","title":{"rendered":"Daily Scripture, August 31, 2023"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/passionist.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/Aug-31.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-30680\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Scripture:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/bible.usccb.org\/bible\/readings\/thursday-twenty-first-week-ordinary-time\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/bible.usccb.org\/bible\/readings\/thursday-twenty-first-week-ordinary-time\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">1 Thessalonians 3:7-13<br>Matthew 24:42-51<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Reflexi\u00f3n:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Happy Thursday of the Twenty-first Week in Ordinary Time!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some years ago, I had cause to plead with God \u2013 to beg for something\u2026 anything that would help me through a challenge which, up until that point, was the worst moment of my life.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sure, every single day I\u2019m in need.&nbsp; And if I were a betting man, I\u2019d bet that you also feel the same way.&nbsp; But on this particular day, I was slapped in the face with something I could never have imagined, and certainly didn\u2019t want.&nbsp; It doesn\u2019t really matter what it was, but it was palpable and intense.&nbsp; Perhaps you\u2019ve felt something similar at some point on your journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So, and as I usually do when things go wrong, I found myself in the sanctuary.&nbsp; Sitting completely alone, isolated, and broken, I yelled, \u201cGod, are you even there?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And then it happened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In as clear and loud a voice as you could imagine \u2014 as though it came from someone sitting as uncomfortably close as they possibly could \u2014 in my left ear, I heard, \u201cWell, Paul, I had to get your attention SOME-how.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I spun to my left immediately, but the church was completely empty.&nbsp; It took a few moments, but it hit me like a ton of bricks\u2026&nbsp; It was Jesus, Godself, who had to beat me over the head with a huge stick just so I would be able to recognize that he was there with me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In our Gospel today (Matthew 24:42-51), Jesus says to his disciples: &#8220;Stay awake!&nbsp; For at an hour you do not expect, the Son of Man will come.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I sure didn\u2019t know that Jesus would yell at me in that hour.&nbsp; But the thing is that God is ALWAYS there, yelling at us.&nbsp; If we would only keep our senses open to seeing him, we\u2019d find God in every moment, in every person, in every experience.&nbsp; Jesus walks with us in every step and in every occasion, whether we like it or not.&nbsp; God is always there, pursuing us.&nbsp; In our strength and in our sorrow, our joy and in our pain\u2026 In the extraordinary and the ordinary, God is there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So where does God find you?&nbsp; Is it only in the good?&nbsp; Or could it also be in the bad?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Could it be in loss, or maybe an accident?&nbsp; A diagnosis or breach of trust?<br>Could it be in the shame and regret of the mistakes of your past?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">God is there.&nbsp;<br>God is with you\u2026 especially when you least expect it.&nbsp;<br>Always.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Open your eyes, your ears, your heart.&nbsp; A tree.&nbsp; A flower.&nbsp; A bird.&nbsp; A song.&nbsp; A weed.&nbsp; A phone call.&nbsp; A broken bone.&nbsp; A chance meeting.&nbsp; A stranger appearing at the exact right moment.&nbsp; A person saying, \u201cI love you.\u201d&nbsp; That\u2019s God, coming for you.&nbsp; Wanting you.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Holding you in the amazing expanse of his most holy arms.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I don\u2019t know when it\u2019ll happen, but God does.&nbsp; And all we have to do is keep our eyes peeled, and be open, be ready, be waiting.&nbsp; Even in our darkest moment, it\u2019s never too late to know and feel God\u2019s loving presence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So where is God in your life right now?&nbsp;<br>Who is Jesus using to reach you, to walk with you?<br>Or, could it be that God is in you, acting though you, to reach out to another?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">(scary!)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Stay awake\u2026 be ready.&nbsp; Look.&nbsp; Listen.&nbsp;<br>God is with you,<br>even in the hour which you do not expect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Dear God of all creation,<\/em><br><em>thank you for the gift of your most amazing presence in all things.&nbsp; <\/em><br><em>Please, <\/em><br><em>grant us the faith to see you, <\/em><br><em>to hear you, <\/em><br><em>to call for you, <\/em><br><em>to reach for you, <\/em><br><em>and to know your healing<\/em><br><em>in your perfect way, <\/em><br><em>in your perfect time.&nbsp;
