{"id":2462,"date":"2023-08-23T20:00:00","date_gmt":"2023-08-24T01:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wiga5ubklx.wpdns.site\/2023\/08\/23\/daily-scripture-august-24-2023\/"},"modified":"2023-08-23T20:00:00","modified_gmt":"2023-08-24T01:00:00","slug":"daily-scripture-august-24-2023","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/passionist.org\/es\/2023\/08\/23\/daily-scripture-august-24-2023\/","title":{"rendered":"Daily Scripture, August 24, 2023"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/passionist.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/Woman-Overlooking-Valley.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-21296\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Scripture:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/bible.usccb.org\/bible\/readings\/082423.cfm\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/bible.usccb.org\/bible\/readings\/082423.cfm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Revelation 21:9b-14<br>John 1:45-51<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Reflexi\u00f3n:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Meeting Jesus<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Philip in the beginning of Jesus\u2019s ministry tells Nathaniel: \u201ccome and see\u201d Jesus!&nbsp; The first step of religion or of a meaningful relationship with the Lord is to meet Him!&nbsp;&nbsp; This fact is so obvious in the Gospels that it can easily be missed.&nbsp; &nbsp;It is expressed by a plethora of words and expressions. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Just one word \u201cto come near\u201d (pros-erxomai in Greek NT) alone is used for approaching Jesus 29 times in Matthew.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In today\u2019s Gospel Nathaniel becomes a lifelong follower of Jesus only after experiencing His word and presence.&nbsp;&nbsp; He needed to be brought face to face with the living Christ.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; We see a frequent pattern in the Scriptures of encounters with the Lord.&nbsp; &nbsp;A beautiful example is found in Mt 28:9 \u201cAnd behold, Jesus met (Greek NT upo+anti up close) them (women) and greeted them. &nbsp;&nbsp;And they came up and took a strong hold of His feet and worshiped Him.\u201d Mt 28:9<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The experience of meeting Jesus must begin with Him making the first move.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; In the post resurrection appearances, no one sees Jesus unless He first shows Himself.&nbsp;&nbsp; So, we see in Mt 28 Jesus first \u201cmeets\u201d (upo+anti up close) the women.&nbsp; It is only then that they approach (pros-erxomai) and throw their arms around His feet, so He won\u2019t get away!&nbsp; &nbsp;In prayer we must be humble and realize we are way out of our ability to contact Jesus by our own power.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Cure of Ars beautifully comments: \u201cMy little children, your hearts are small, but prayer stretches them and makes them capable of loving God.\u201d To touch the Living Christ is the biggest stretch of our lives!&nbsp; How many people have experienced not only is it hard to pray but it is impossible to do so without Himself revealing His presence? &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">How often in Scripture the Psalmist begs God: \u201cDo not hide Your face from me,Ps 27:9&nbsp; \u201cYou hid Your face, I was dismayed\u201d Ps 30:7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The face of God was a beautiful expression for the presence of God.&nbsp; God is the deciding factor whether we can meet Him in prayer or not!&nbsp; &nbsp;In the Divine Office we wisely begin by saying: \u201cOpen my mouth and (then) I shall declare thy praise!\u201d<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Fr.
