{"id":2641,"date":"2023-02-02T21:00:00","date_gmt":"2023-02-03T03:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wiga5ubklx.wpdns.site\/2023\/02\/02\/daily-scripture-february-3-2023\/"},"modified":"2023-02-02T21:00:00","modified_gmt":"2023-02-03T03:00:00","slug":"daily-scripture-february-3-2023","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/passionist.org\/es\/2023\/02\/02\/daily-scripture-february-3-2023\/","title":{"rendered":"Daily Scripture, February 3, 2023"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/passionist.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Feb-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-27727\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Scripture:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/bible.usccb.org\/bible\/readings\/020323.cfm\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/bible.usccb.org\/bible\/readings\/020323.cfm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Hebrews 13:1-8<br>Mark 6:14-29<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Reflexi\u00f3n:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today\u2019s reading has been the subject of numerous theatrical and cinematic interpretations \u2013 understandably perhaps given the weakness of Herod, the deviousness of Herodias and the allure of Salome\u2019s dancing \u2013 all ingredients for great drama and spectacle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While we might profit from reflecting on the frailty of the human condition as manifested by Herod acting from fear, Herodias\u2019s self-protective behaviours and Salome\u2019s unreflected compliance to the will of others, we must not lose sight of the deeper truths revealed in the reading.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By contrast to the other protagonists, John has acted with courage, has not sought to protect himself from criticism and has not followed anyone\u2019s will other than that of God. John has stood for the truth in the face of opposition and stood steadfastly for fundamental values \u2013 and it has led to imprisonment, and as we learn, will now cost his very life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mark weaves all four characters, and their respective behaviours into this account, and while artistic interpretations of Herod, Herodias or Salome may be entertaining, only John\u2019s witness to steadfastness and faith is genuinely influential. Today\u2019s gospel highlights the fact that truth is greater than deceit, that truth will endure whilst selfish behaviour will ultimately be ineffective, and that knowing one\u2019s truth and acting from it, is enduring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Fr.
