{"id":2722,"date":"2022-10-31T20:00:00","date_gmt":"2022-11-01T01:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wiga5ubklx.wpdns.site\/2022\/10\/31\/daily-scripture-november-1-2022\/"},"modified":"2022-10-31T20:00:00","modified_gmt":"2022-11-01T01:00:00","slug":"daily-scripture-november-1-2022","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/passionist.org\/es\/2022\/10\/31\/daily-scripture-november-1-2022\/","title":{"rendered":"Daily Scripture, November 1, 2022"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/passionist.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Nov-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-22185\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Solemnity of All Saints<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Scripture:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/bible.usccb.org\/bible\/readings\/110122.cfm\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/bible.usccb.org\/bible\/readings\/110122.cfm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Revelation 7:2-4, 9-14<br>1 John 3:1-3<br>Matthew 5:1-12<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Reflexi\u00f3n:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the Church\u2019s liturgical calendar, each November begins with the great feast of \u201cAll Saints\u201d and then turns to \u201cAll Souls.\u201d&nbsp; The exuberant Scripture readings include the gospel selection from the beatitudes, the beginning of Jesus\u2019 Sermon on the Mount found in Matthew\u2019s Gospel, one of the New Testament\u2019s most well-known passages. Jesus blesses those who are poor and downtrodden and lifts up those who exemplify the very values and commitments that mark his own ministry: the peacemakers, the merciful, the clean of heart, those who hunger and thirst for justice.&nbsp; The first reading today is a portion from the Book of Revelation where the author, John, is treated to a vision of a \u201cgreat multitude\u201d from \u201cevery nation, race, people and tongue\u201d\u2014a vast procession of those who worship God and have followed Jesus, the Lamb of God.&nbsp; Wedged between these readings is a beautiful selection from the First Letter of John, reminding his \u201cbeloved\u201d Christians that God\u2019s love for them is so intense that may be called \u201cchildren of God.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Who are the people addressed in these biblical readings?&nbsp; Who is included in this feast\u2019s \u201call Saints\u201d?&nbsp;&nbsp; Surely, as the reading from the Book of Revelation illustrates, it includes the saints from all ages past\u2014from Augustine, the great theologian to Theresa, the Little Flower, from Agnes the early Roman martyr, to the Medieval mystic Hildegard of Bingen, from St. Monica, the mother of Augustine to Mother Theresa, the mother of the poor.&nbsp; Not all the saints are formally declared such. When Pope Francis spoke to the Congress on his visit to the United States, he cited two such \u201cunofficial\u201d saints such as Dorothy Day and Thomas Merton.&nbsp; And there are all the other \u201csaints\u201d in that great procession of the followers of the Lamb\u2014family members and friends we have known and whose memory still inspires us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But this feast of \u201cAll Saints\u201d honors more than our beloved dead.&nbsp; We the living should also be listed among the \u201csaints.\u201d&nbsp; In his letters to his communities, Paul the Apostle repeatedly called his fellow Christians the \u201csaints\u201d or the \u201choly ones.\u201d&nbsp; For Paul, every baptized Christian was imbued with God\u2019s grace and therefore was \u201choly.\u201d&nbsp; In Paul\u2019s view it was not a matter of a follower of Jesus having to try to \u201cbecome holy\u201d\u2014a Christian was already graced by God, already a \u201ctemple of the Holy Spirit,\u201d even now, a member of the \u201cBody of Christ.\u201d&nbsp; That is the same view expressed in John\u2019s letter: \u201cBeloved, we are God\u2019s children <em>now<\/em>.\u201d The challenge is to \u201cbe ourselves\u201d\u2014that is to live a life expressive of who we truly are.&nbsp; \u201cBecome what you are\u201d is one way of thinking about what we seek to do in living a life in accord with the gospel.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This great feast\u2014and the feast of All Souls that will follow\u2014views the church as one innumerable assembly of people united and graced by God\u2019s love.&nbsp; A people that includes those of us who live now in this world, who, in the words of today\u2019s responsorial psalm, \u201clong to see God\u2019s face,\u201d and those who have gone before us and now see the ultimate source of all life and all joy \u201cface to face.\u201d&nbsp; At a time of pandemic and much social distress and violence in our world, this feast reminds us of our dignity as daughters and sons of God, a cause for joy and hope.<br><br><em>Fr.
