{"id":2723,"date":"2022-10-31T02:13:53","date_gmt":"2022-10-31T07:13:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wiga5ubklx.wpdns.site\/2022\/10\/31\/daily-scripture-october-31-2022\/"},"modified":"2022-10-31T02:13:53","modified_gmt":"2022-10-31T07:13:53","slug":"daily-scripture-october-31-2022","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/passionist.org\/es\/2022\/10\/31\/daily-scripture-october-31-2022\/","title":{"rendered":"Daily Scripture, October 31, 2022"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/passionist.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Oct-31.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-26368\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Scripture:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/bible.usccb.org\/bible\/readings\/103122.cfm\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/bible.usccb.org\/bible\/readings\/103122.cfm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Philippians 2:1-4<br>Luke 14:12-14<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Reflexi\u00f3n:<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Happy Monday in the 31st Week of Ordinary Time!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Call me eccentric (Ok, Paul, you\u2019re eccentric), but I\u2019ve always been one to leave little notes or flowers or gifts on people\u2019s cars.&nbsp; It\u2019s almost like a secret mission!&nbsp; I plot a course to wherever they\u2019re working or living and go at a time I knew they wouldn\u2019t be around.&nbsp; Then I park around the corner, sneak up, and place a little envelope under their windshield wiper, slip a small bouquet in the door handle, or hang a little gift-bag on their side-view mirror, and then quietly slip away, hopefully unnoticed.&nbsp; Often, I don\u2019t even sign my name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I suppose it\u2019s silly, but for my heart, it\u2019s joyful and uplifting.&nbsp; It\u2019s a strange type of happiness, knowing someone\u2019s day might be made just a little bit brighter because of a small effort from my time and body, and boatload of love from my heart.&nbsp; And when they don\u2019t know it was me, well, that\u2019s the most fun of all!&nbsp; The surprise lets them feel loved with no rhyme nor reason.&nbsp; I know I long for that, and I sure enjoy giving it when I can.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In today\u2019s Gospel (Luke 14:12-14), Jesus is having dinner with one of the \u201cleading Pharisees,\u201d and said to the host, \u201cWhen you hold a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind; blessed indeed will you be because of their inability to repay you.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We all know Jesus\u2019 instruction to care for the people on the fringes of society.&nbsp; But what are they?&nbsp; \u201cThe poor, the Sick, the crippled, the lame, the blind.\u201d&nbsp; (Luke 14:13) What these people are is an important distinction.&nbsp; But -who- are they?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Who are the invisible people in our life?&nbsp; Whom do we pass by daily?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The poor could be our sister, struggling to pay her bills this month.&nbsp; The sick could be our brother, in body or in mind.&nbsp; The crippled or lame might be our mother, needing help with her walker or wheelchair.&nbsp; How about the person with a different skin color or ethnic background.&nbsp; The gay person, longing to be accepted.&nbsp; The person reeling from a brutal separation or divorce.&nbsp; The convict.&nbsp; The adult just recently orphaned after their final parent dies.&nbsp; The person trapped in the recesses of mental illness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And the list goes on and on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These are all beautiful souls, worthy of the little notes, flowers, and gifts of our heart.&nbsp; And the sharing of that love only doubles as it floods not just one, but two.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So, who are the people that need to be invited to our table?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Who will be blessed with a little surprise from us today?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Dear God,<br>thank you for the invitation<br>to dine at your table.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Please,<br>grant us the grace<br>to carry that invitation<br>to those on the fringes.<br>Help us open the door of our hearts,<br>especially to that person<br>most in need of our acceptance and our love.
