{"id":2749,"date":"2022-09-30T20:00:00","date_gmt":"2022-10-01T01:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wiga5ubklx.wpdns.site\/2022\/09\/30\/daily-scripture-october-1-2022\/"},"modified":"2022-09-30T20:00:00","modified_gmt":"2022-10-01T01:00:00","slug":"daily-scripture-october-1-2022","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/passionist.org\/es\/2022\/09\/30\/daily-scripture-october-1-2022\/","title":{"rendered":"Daily Scripture, October 1, 2022"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Feast of Saint Th\u00e9r\u00e8se of the Child Jesus<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/passionist.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/St-Therese-of-Lisieux-content.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/passionist.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/St-Therese-of-Lisieux-content-171x300.jpg\" alt=\"st-therese-of-lisieux-content\" class=\"wp-image-6028\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Scripture:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/bible.usccb.org\/bible\/readings\/100122.cfm\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/bible.usccb.org\/bible\/readings\/100122.cfm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Job 42:1-3, 5-6, 12-17<br>Luke 10:17-24<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Reflexi\u00f3n:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today we celebrate the feast of one of the church\u2019s most beloved and surprising saints of modern times.&nbsp; Th\u00e9r\u00e8se died in 1897 when she was only 24 years old.&nbsp; As a young adult she had never left her Carmelite cloister, never went to college or a university, and was from a small town in France.&nbsp; Yet the spirit of this determined young woman reached out to the entire world.&nbsp; Like another Theresa\u2014Mother Theresa of Calcutta fame\u2014she was rapidly canonized in 1925, named along with St. Francis Xavier as \u201cco-patron of the church\u2019s missions\u201d by Pius XI in 1927, and declared a doctor of the church by Pope John Paul II!&nbsp; She is popularly called \u201cthe Little Flower\u201d but in many ways she was anything but a little flower!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What was it about Th\u00e9r\u00e8se that has made her so attractive a saint?&nbsp; The readings assigned for today are not specifically chosen for this feast but fit well anyway and give us a hint about this young cloistered Carmelite\u2019s strong spirituality.&nbsp; Th\u00e9r\u00e8se spoke of her \u201clittle way\u201d which meant living faithfully and humbly each moment of her life, striving to do all things out of love for God. The first reading for today is taken from the conclusion to the book of Job.&nbsp; Here this battered believer, who seemed to lose everything dear to him in his life, at last finds peace.&nbsp; He bows before the might of God and trusts that God ultimately would bless him.&nbsp; Job\u2019s humility is met with God\u2019s providential love and he ends his life surrounded by his beautiful family and the flowering of all his work.&nbsp; It is this deep down trust in God\u2019s love, and striving to live daily in that spirit that formed Th\u00e9r\u00e8se\u2019s spirituality.&nbsp; Despite later attempt to portray the \u201cLittle Flower\u201d in sentimental and saccharine tones, she was in fact sturdy and realistic, enduring the foibles of her fellow Carmelites and suffering chronic illness, but never yielding to indifference or self-pity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There is another dimension to Th\u00e9r\u00e8se\u2019s spirit that is important\u2014one honored in her title as patroness of the church\u2019s missions.&nbsp; Although her life was spent inside a French cloister, her spirit of love for Christ roamed the world.&nbsp; She said she wanted to be the \u201capostle of the apostles\u201d (a title, by the way, that the early church gave to Mary Magdalene for her role in being the first to alert the disciples to the resurrection of Christ!) and she desired to \u201cbring thousands of souls to Christ.\u201d&nbsp; No wall could keep Th\u00e9r\u00e8se confined; her solid Christian faith expanded her horizon to the whole world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That expansive spirit is echoed in Jesus\u2019 ardent prayer of praise in today\u2019s gospel selection from Luke 10:17-24.&nbsp; When the seventy-two disciples whom Jesus had sent out on mission return \u201crejoicing,\u201d Jesus himself exults in God\u2019s gracious and expansive love.&nbsp; \u201cBlessed are the eyes that see what you see,\u201d Jesus tells his disciples.&nbsp;&nbsp; Because of her strong faith and irrepressible love for Christ, Th\u00e9r\u00e8se, too, saw the whole world as a place of beauty, one deserving of hearing the liberating message of the Gospel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br><em>Fr.
