{"id":2957,"date":"2022-02-03T21:00:00","date_gmt":"2022-02-04T03:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wiga5ubklx.wpdns.site\/2022\/02\/03\/daily-scripture-february-4-2022\/"},"modified":"2022-02-03T21:00:00","modified_gmt":"2022-02-04T03:00:00","slug":"daily-scripture-february-4-2022","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/passionist.org\/es\/2022\/02\/03\/daily-scripture-february-4-2022\/","title":{"rendered":"Daily Scripture, February 4, 2022"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/passionist.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Feb-4.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-23317\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Scripture:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/bible.usccb.org\/bible\/readings\/020422.cfm\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/bible.usccb.org\/bible\/readings\/020422.cfm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sirach 47:2-11 <br>Mark 6:14-29<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Reflexi\u00f3n:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><u>All For Jesus!&nbsp; 21<sup>st<\/sup> Century Discipleship<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today\u2019s Gospel selection from St. Mark recounts the martyrdom of St. John the Baptist at the hands of a weak-willed King Herod\u2026a saga of religious dedication and heroism meeting basic human nature.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">John the Baptist was a man completely absorbed in the person of Jesus Christ.&nbsp; He had one mission:&nbsp; to point out Jesus to others.&nbsp; The persons, John the Baptist and Jesus, go \u201chand in hand\u201d \u2026totally giving of themselves in sacrificial love.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sad to say, the dedicated, heroic life of John the Baptist ended with the almost ludicrous actions of King Herod.&nbsp; Herod was a petty ruler, the pawn of his unscrupulous wife; he allowed himself to become enraptured by the party-dancing of his own young daughter.&nbsp; So taken up by the party, the people present, and the dancing of his daughter, Herod publicly promised her anything \u2013 even swearing regarding his intentions!&nbsp; The ultimate outcome:&nbsp; John the Baptist was murdered per the request of Herodias relayed through her daughter, beheaded as the party ended.&nbsp; John\u2019s heroic life tragically ended as a victim of humanness, weakness, and sinfulness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We hear this gripping story as 21<sup>st<\/sup> Century disciples of Jesus Christ, in our global scene of pandemics and politics, of injustice and insecurity.&nbsp; Like John the Baptist, we are called to point out Jesus in our world, to unselfishly love and serve the Lord, day by day, even in the hum-drum times of everyday life.&nbsp; Our love for Jesus is to be expressed in simple, practical ways like hospitality, concern for the needy, faithfulness to our vocations, detachment from things, and reliance on God.&nbsp; Our lives may not appear \u201cheroic\u201d as portrayed of King David in today\u2019s first reading from the Book of Sirach, yet we are to give ourselves completely to God in ways both great and small.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As \u201cOrdinary Time\u201d continues to unfold and we embrace these wintery days in the northern hemisphere, questions come to mind:&nbsp; what challenges do we face as we point out Jesus in our world?&nbsp; Do we at times \u201cget carried away\u201d by people or situations?&nbsp; What helps us maintain our strength and perspective?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">May the words of today\u2019s Psalm 18 encourage us daily: \u201c\u2026blessed be my Rock!&nbsp; Extolled be God my savior.&nbsp; Therefore, I will proclaim you, O Lord, among the nations, and I will sing praise to your name.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Fr.
