{"id":2999,"date":"2021-12-19T21:00:00","date_gmt":"2021-12-20T03:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wiga5ubklx.wpdns.site\/2021\/12\/19\/daily-scripture-december-20-2021\/"},"modified":"2021-12-19T21:00:00","modified_gmt":"2021-12-20T03:00:00","slug":"daily-scripture-december-20-2021","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/passionist.org\/es\/2021\/12\/19\/daily-scripture-december-20-2021\/","title":{"rendered":"Daily Scripture, December 20, 2021"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/passionist.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Dec-20.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-22836\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Scripture:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/bible.usccb.org\/bible\/readings\/122021.cfm\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/bible.usccb.org\/bible\/readings\/122021.cfm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Isaiah 7:10-14 <br>Luke 1:26-38<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Reflexi\u00f3n:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today\u2019s readings are about promise and fulfillment, fear and courage, cynicism and trust.&nbsp;&nbsp; Just five days before we celebrate the birth of Christ, the readings remind us that the coming of Christ was no accident, no twist of fate.&nbsp; Rather, the coming of Christ was the fulfillment of a promise made long before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The first reading tells us about the Prophet Isaiah\u2019s encounter with Ahaz, the King of Judah.&nbsp; Isaiah is trying to give Ahaz a spine so he can face his enemies who are at the gate.&nbsp; He assures Ahaz of God\u2019s care and tells him to ask for a sign of God\u2019s favor.&nbsp; Ahaz can\u2019t imagine how God could make a difference in this crisis so he begs off with the words, \u201cI will not ask.&nbsp; I will not tempt the Lord.\u201d&nbsp; Isaiah, in disgust, responds, \u201c\u2026the Lord Himself will give you this sign: the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall name him Emmanuel.\u201d&nbsp; The fear and cynicism of Ahaz result in the destruction of his Kingdom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the Gospel, we hear the story of Mary\u2019s encounter with the Angel of God.&nbsp; The angel tells her that God has a plan for her that boggles her imagination.&nbsp; She is told that she will bear a son \u201cwho will be called holy, the Son of God\u2026and who will rule over the house of Jacob forever.\u201d&nbsp; Though she is unsure how these things could possibly happen, her personal courage and complete trust in God move her to respond, \u201cI am the handmaid of the Lord.&nbsp; May it be done to me according to your word.\u201d&nbsp; Luke clearly sees that the promise made by God through Isaiah is fulfilled in the \u201cyes\u201d of the Mother of Jesus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These readings call us to realize that God\u2019s promises are best fulfilled in the hearts and lives of those who are open to Him.&nbsp; As we prepare for Christmas let our prayer be, \u201cLord, help us welcome you with trust in our hearts whenever you come.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Fr.
