A very large group of us were assembled together in pilgrimage, many who were very ill, whom we lovingly referred to as \u201cmaladies.\u201d&nbsp; The others were family members, friends, and the patrons of the pilgrimage, the Knights and Dames of Malta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Era la la Memoria de Nuestra Se\u00f1ora Mar\u00eda Reina (22 agosto).  Naturalmente pens\u00e9 en ella bajo su otro t\u00edtulo, Reina de los \u00c1ngeles y Santos.  Mientras preparaba el serm\u00f3n para la misa, record\u00e9 las visitas previas a Lourdes con tantos que estaban enfermos y sufr\u00edan de otras circunstancias tambi\u00e9n. Sab\u00eda que si yo iba a predicar sobre Mar\u00eda como reina, tambi\u00e9n tendr\u00eda que recordar cuando se reconoci\u00f3 como nuestra reina, tan bellamente adornada con ropas, t\u00fanicas, un cetro en la mano y un trono dorado representativo de su realeza.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I remembered all the beautiful images of our Blessed Mother, sitting upon her throne, a moment captured by many Italian and Dutch artists, and others as well.&nbsp; Radiant in her beauty, surrounded by angels and saints, too.&nbsp; But because I was so aware of all those who would be seated before me in the Rosary Basilica, so many of whom would be in wheelchairs and voitures, as they are called in French, I knew I could hardly invite them to a golden throne, so majestic and beyond earthly experience.&nbsp; Rather, as a Passionist, I realized that the Lord was asking me to bring all the assembled to a different place, to the first throne of Mary, the mother of Jesus.&nbsp; And where do we find this very \u201cfirst throne\u201d of Mary?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"has-palette-color-4-color has-palette-color-5-background-color has-text-color has-background has-link-color wp-elements-1 wp-block-paragraph\">At the foot of the Cross.&nbsp; We see Mary sitting in the dirt, adorned not with silk robes but rather wearing blood-stained garments and her tear-streaked face, all of which came from the unimaginably painful moment when she held in her arms, embraced in her lap, the broken, crucified body of her beloved Son, Jesus, our Crucified Lord.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> Este es el momento en que Mar\u00eda, simple doncella de Nazaret, se hizo Reina del Cielo y de la Tierra, Reina de los \u00c1ngeles y de los Santos, sentada en el barro y la suciedad del Calvario, al pie de la cruz.  Fue el momento cuando Mar\u00eda asume y merece el nombre de nuestra reina, nuestra propia madre \u201cbendecida\u201d.  Y, en este momento, al acercarnos a la Cruz de Cristo, es su mano callosa y manchada la que puede tender y sostener la nuestra.  Ella conoce nuestras penas; conoce nuestro dolor.  No simplemente como una reina gloriosamente entronizada en el Cielo, sino como una madre amada que nos abraza, mientras luchamos para entender el significado de nuestras propias cruces y sufrimiento tan a menudo encontrados en la vida diaria.
