After He tells the parable, Jesus explains it to His disciples. The seed is the word of God, and the various areas correspond to the various ways in which people respond to God\u2019s words.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What I\u2019d like to focus on is the last category of seed. Jesus says: \u201cBut as for the seed that fell on rich soil, they are the ones who, when they have heard the word, embrace it with a generous and good heart, and bear fruit through perseverance.\u201d Of course, we are called to embrace the word and bear good fruit. But maybe the perseverance Jesus is talking about is not only perseverance through tough times or, as the first readers of Luke might have understood it, persecution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Perhaps Jesus is also talking about a perseverance with ourselves. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text is-stacked-on-mobile has-palette-color-5-background-color has-background\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"610\" height=\"330\" src=\"https:\/\/passionist.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Weeding-the-Garden.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3620 size-full\" srcset=\"https:\/\/passionist.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Weeding-the-Garden.jpg 610w, https:\/\/passionist.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Weeding-the-Garden-300x162.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p class=\"has-palette-color-31-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-1 wp-block-paragraph\">For instance, there may have been times when we may have let the \u201canxieties and riches and pleasures of life\u201d keep us from embracing God\u2019s word as fully as we would like. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But by the grace of God, we don\u2019t need to be stuck among the thorns! God can lift us up out of anxiety. The challenge might be whether we are willing to be lifted up out of being seduced by things that don\u2019t last. If we are willing to come closer to God, and keep striving to bear good fruit, we can do so with trust that God will persevere with us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">May we embrace God\u2019s love in Jesus Christ.
