Amos criticizes the wealthy for using dishonest scales and enslaving the poor. Unfair business practices and injustices to the poor will be judged by God. The responsorial psalm proclaims, \u201cPraise be to God who raises up the poor\u201d. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the Gospel reading, Jesus tells a parable about a dishonest steward who is commended for his prudence; one cannot serve both God and money. In the Bible, \u201cmammon\u201d is an Aramaic word that means riches and wealth.\u00a0 The steward was dishonest because he was charging interest to line his own pockets and not putting his employer before himself.\u00a0 The steward puts aside his greed to take care of his employer.\u00a0 There are several lessons from today\u2019s readings for the Christian.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote has-palette-color-38-background-color has-background is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>First, the Christian must be prudent about the accumulation and use of wealth.\u00a0 Budgets whether personal, family or business budgets are important theological, moral and value statements. <\/em><\/p>\n<cite>&#8211;<a href=\"https:\/\/s3staging.loyolapress.com\/catholic-resources\/liturgical-year\/sunday-connection\/25th-sunday-in-ordinary-time-c-sunday-connection\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Loyola Press<\/a><\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"has-palette-color-38-background-color has-background wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Second is we must be trusted in the small things so we can also be trusted with the affairs of God\u2019s kingdom. Jesus tells us we cannot serve two masters.\u00a0 God must be put ahead of a job and making money. <\/em><\/p>\n<cite>&#8211;<a href=\"https:\/\/s3staging.loyolapress.com\/catholic-resources\/liturgical-year\/sunday-connection\/25th-sunday-in-ordinary-time-c-sunday-connection\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Loyola Press<\/a><\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The ethical and critical question for us is how do we spend our time and money?
