Depending on its forcefulness, it can be so hurtful&nbsp;at deeper psychological levels, especially if the person has made themself vulnerable in their sharing or outreach.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:clamp(15.747px, 0.984rem + ((1vw - 3.2px) * 0.645), 24px);\">Rejection is not just an act of self-expression; it harms existing relationships or cuts off possibilities for a potential relationship.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No wonder Jesus warns his followers to be aware of this reality and even prepare to meet it.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Indeed, we live and minister in an age that almost takes pride in rejection. Of course, it disguises itself as exclusion and intolerance and underpins much of the \u2018cancel culture\u2019 that plagues our social discourse and limits real dialogue.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Spiritually, it can morph into a softer dynamic; rather than people rejecting God outright, they can opt for a forgetfulness of God or for casting God\u2019s message and vision into the category of irrelevance.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In some ways, this is more damaging. Outright rejection of the vision and message of Jesus at least presumes a dialogue, even if it is wrapped in anger and steely determination not to engage! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text is-stacked-on-mobile has-palette-color-38-background-color has-background\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"610\" height=\"330\" src=\"https:\/\/passionist.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Woman-Overlooking-Valley.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3627 size-full\" srcset=\"https:\/\/passionist.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Woman-Overlooking-Valley.jpg 610w, https:\/\/passionist.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Woman-Overlooking-Valley-300x162.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-1 wp-block-paragraph\">At least there is recognition of God and potentially hope for some change of heart.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ignoring God in favour of our own perspectives or inflated sense of self-reliance is like closing a door and hiding from the relationship.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The positive affirmation of today\u2019s gospel is Jesus\u2019 confidence in our capacity to witness in a way that enables people to hear not just us but to hear Jesus too. We are the conduit, the ambassadors for Jesus. This is our fundamental vocation- to witness in such a way that the world listens.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Breaking through apathy is a significant challenge in today&#8217;s world. Our witness must address the deep needs of people and speak to them in a language they understand, one that makes sense. No more talking to empty rooms or supplying answers to questions no longer asked.
