There is a baptism with which I must be baptized, and how great is my anguish until it is accomplished! Do you think that I have come to establish peace on the earth? No, I tell you, but rather division.\u201d And then Jesus describes family members set against each other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We may find ourselves struggling with Jesus\u2019 words. Do we not call Jesus the Prince of Peace? Don\u2019t we have enough division in this country? In this world? I don\u2019t believe Jesus is talking about fomenting hate and fear and a thirst for war and conquest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile has-palette-color-41-background-color has-background\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-1 wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:clamp(17.371px, 1.086rem + ((1vw - 3.2px) * 0.752), 27px);\">The \u201cbaptism\u201d to which He refers is the sacrifice He was going to make on the Cross out of love for us.<\/p>\n<\/div><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"610\" height=\"330\" src=\"https:\/\/passionist.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/MDRC-Cross.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3438 size-full\" srcset=\"https:\/\/passionist.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/MDRC-Cross.jpg 610w, https:\/\/passionist.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/MDRC-Cross-300x162.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the same time, Jesus is not calling us to have peace at any cost. To follow Jesus involves making choices that make us uncomfortable, and can sometimes bring us into conflict with people, even people closest to us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus did not come to make us comfortable or complacent. He did not advocate peace at the cost of ignoring \u201cthe least\u201d among us or accepting injustice as a matter of course.
