The solar installation at Mater Dolorosa Retreat Center is officially turned on! We were blessed to have Fr. Giuseppe Adobati,CP, our Superior General, visiting from Rome, flip the switch the switch and help us celebrate this new chapter in caring for our common home.

Inspired by Pope Francis’ teaching in Laudato Si',, the project reflects our commitment to caring for Earth and using its resources responsibly. As Passionists, we recognize that care for creation is closely connected to care for people, especially those who suffer most from environmental harm.

The installation includes 448 solar panels across two parking areas, along with batteries to store energy and provide backup power during outages. The project also includes four electric vehicle charging stations.

The system is expected to save the retreat center approximately $100,000 to $110,000 each year in utility costs. These savings will help sustain our ministry and the welcoming space we offer to all who come seeking prayer, rest and a deeper connection with God.

This milestone is the fruit of generous support and dedicated work. We are grateful to our donors, project champion and former Board Chair Filippo Fanara, JNG Power and everyone who helped bring the solar installation to life. Their commitment has helped turn a vision for renewable energy into a lasting investment in the retreat center’s future.
