Habakkuk asks the questions we are all familiar with: How can a good God allow such awful things to happen? Why do bad things happen to good people?

Jesus said to his disciples,
"Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself,
take up his cross, and follow me.
For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it."

We are made for unity with God, the infinite one, the one with no limits.

The gospel today reveals profound realities. We could focus on its miraculous signs—Jesus walking on water and inviting Peter to do the same—but today let us attend more closely to the dynamics it uncovers.

We hear the Word of God. We are healed of the things that hold us back, and we are nourished for the journey.

Do we tell the people we love what they need to hear, in a way that can actually be received, or do we soften the truth into something useless, or deliver it so bluntly it can't be heard at all?

The people of Nazareth struggled to reconcile Jesus’ humble origins with his wisdom and extraordinary abilities.

Today’s reading from Matthew 13:47-53 is a parable in which Jesus tells us that at the end of times, everyone will be gathered like fish in a net and sorted as good or bad.
