Love one another as I love you. This is my commandment. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.

The stranger who is hungry, unhoused, unwell or otherwise troubled is more than just a passing moment in my life. They have a complete story of their own and are every bit a child of God!

God, thank you for the joys in our lives and for life itself.

As St John quotes Jesus in today’s Gospel, He is the vine. When we all abide in Christ and he abides in all of us we bear much fruit.

While often difficult, we are called to remain steadfast in the knowledge that Jesus is with us on this journey.

The more God is all in all for us, the more we reveal His love in Jesus Christ, and the more the world hears the Good News.

Jesus is our ‘home’ and he is the centre of our world of meaning, belonging and authentic living.

Like St. Paul and St. Athanasius, we can rely on God to strengthen us with the spiritual gift of Fortitude when discipleship is not easy, and we face resistance in ourselves or from others. And so, we pray for this gift!

Dignity is not earned through effort or achievement. It is received as a gift from God. Work follows as a participation in God’s ongoing creation, not as the source of our value.

Jesus explains that no one who serves is greater than the one being served, or that no messenger is greater than the one sending the message.
