Just as the Apostles were commissioned to be light and to carry the message of the Gospel to the world, we are called, through our Baptism, to be light and the presence of Christ for others.

The hand of the Lord was with them and a great number who believed, turned to the Lord.

Today we are invited to deepen our understanding of the Heart of the Divine Shepherd and at the same time, we are challenged to have a Heart like that of the Divine Shepherd.

Jesus came to give new life in abundance. We are totally his, and as we continue to recognize his voice, may we follow him on to our heavenly home.

In our first reading, St. Peter thunders, “Clothe yourselves in heartfelt humility!”

What we perceive as darkness and confusion might be what the Lord is allowing to prepare us to receive the help we need for the important journey He has planned.

As we contemplate Jesus’ Passion and death and Resurrection, our first response is gratitude. It is in gratitude we accept new life in Christ.

In the midst of this wounded history, Christ presents Himself with a certainty that sustains the soul: “I am the bread of life… whoever comes to me will never hunger.” (John 6).

We know what we should do, but fail to comply with what God is asking. Like stubborn oxen, we often remain focused on our own interests instead of showing patience and kindness to others.

We want the perks of the Prophet without the nuisance of His prophecy. We want a Jesus who endorses our lives, not one who interrogates them.
