During the temptation in the desert, the devil tempts Jesus to turn stones into bread (Matthew 4:3-4; Luke 4:1-4).
Just as Jesus was tempted to alter the stones to satisfy his hunger, we are tempted to alter and consume creation to satisfy our desires, we are tempted to see people and others only in terms of what we can get from them.
We are called, as individuals and as a community, to fast from exploitation of others and to put our trust in God.
The universe is not a collection of objects, but a communion of subjects.
Fr. Thomas Berry, CP

Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink, or about your body, what you will wear… Your heavenly Father knows you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things will be given you besides.
Matthew 6:25, 32-33 (NABRE)
