“Build yourselves up in your most holy faith; pray in the Holy Spirit. Keep yourselves in the love of God and wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life.”

Reflection

In today’s first reading of Jude, I find tremendous comfort in the directional words from the Apostles.  “Build yourselves up in your most holy faith; pray in the Holy Spirit. Keep yourselves in the love of God and wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life.”

Several thousand years have passed since Jesus walked with the apostles and promised an Advocate after his death.  I sometimes feel we don’t understand just how important and uplifting that promise really was and remains today.  Do we treat it as a gift card, which we appreciate but don’t use?

I don’t think the Spirit has ever been quoted in the bible, but it is in everything there. So, finding time and environments for contemplation is important. He is quiet and speaks in whispers.  Allowing ourselves to call upon the Holy Spirit and settling into His presence can be a transformative experience. Rest in the peacefulness and listen to the soft nudging to action.  Embrace these experiences with confidence and rejoice in the gift of peace, joy, and clarity of direction. He is active, bringing all the gifts of the Trinity to us.  He has our best interests at heart. He was promised, is real and sent specifically to each of us.
