Prayer for Ukraine

Fr. Phil Paxton, CP

Loving God,

At this time the world is carrying yet another cross in the war in Ukraine.

Just as Mary watched her Son die at Calvary, we again see too many of Your sons and daughters die in Ukraine, as they have died in so many parts of our world.

Our faith tells us that the Cross of Your Son led to His Resurrection.

Right now, it is hard for us to see resurrection in this conflict. It is as if we are in the tomb with Jesus on Holy Saturday, not yet able to see the light of Easter morning.

But we do know Easter will come!

And so, we stretch out our hands to You. Open our hearts to pray for the victims and the perpetrators of violence.

Give us what we need in the darkness to continue to witness to Your love and testify to the dignity of all Your children.

Give us the strength to bring healing to our world. Lead us by the light of Christ to work in hope for justice and peace.

And by Your grace may we see the dawn of Easter.

We ask this in Jesus’ name.

Amen.
