Signs and Choices
I don’t know about you, but every day I see many warning signs. Stop signs, pedestrian crossing signs, roadwork-ahead signs, traffic lights—the list goes on.
The signs are everywhere, and if we look closely, they are especially apparent in our spiritual lives. What are these warning signs, and what do they mean to us? During this Lenten season, when we reflect on the changes that need to happen within us, I invite you to look at these signs more closely.
Stop sign: Look both ways before making a decision. Does my decision glorify God, or does it glorify myself?
Pedestrian crossing sign: Do I take time to slow down and see what’s around me, appreciating where God has placed me and the season of life I am in?
Traffic signs and traffic lights: These warning signs help us know when to go, when to slow down, and when to stop. Do I take time to consider the words I say to others and how I treat them? Today we hear about our choices: life and prosperity or death and doom.
As we continue through Lent, let’s take heed of the everyday warning signs in our lives—not just for ourselves, but for others, for our brothers and sisters in Christ.
