How should I prepare as we begin the Season of Advent?

Jesus left us with powerful teachings on prayer and compassion for others, as found in the parables, the Beatitudes, and the call to charitable works outlined in Matthew Chapter 25.

While some may see the Kingdom of God as some heavenly realm in the sky above, I prefer to think that the Kingdom of God rests all around us right here in our midst.

Every Mass celebrated is an act of communal thanksgiving by the Body of Christ today. Although we might not be able to be present in person, every Mass is our Mass of Thanksgiving.

It remains simple…a gathering of family and friends around an abundant table that represents the generosity of the Earth and of God.

Jesus talks about the importance of the signs all around us that can either keep us on the kingdom path or lead us away.

The value of our gift is not how much money it is worth, but the cost to the giver.
Are we willing to renounce conventional wisdom and trust in the wisdom of God? Are we willing to forego a life of self-seeking and embrace a life of love and service?

How we relate, not only to those who are like us, but also to those who are “other,” may be one of the criteria by which we are judged.

The feast of the Presentation of Mary is an opportunity for us to reflect upon our own lives and evaluate how dedicated we are to being truly Christian and dedicated to God’s saving work.
