Reflection
Jesus’ time is drawing near! Our season of Lent is also coming to a close!
Jesus has spent the last three years teaching, preaching, healing, and announcing the Good News about the Kingdom of God. His message has inspired some to believe in him and, in turn, become his followers, as we hear in the gospel today. Others, like the Pharisees, continue to call for his death!
It has to be hard for Jesus and his followers to keep a positive attitude and keep on keeping on! It appears to be obvious to Jesus that the mood of the area he found himself in today called for a plan B, thus he moved on to a safer space, even though he knew safety was going to be hard to come by in the days ahead,
So, as this season of Lent comes to a close, I like to think I have prepared sufficiently through my time of prayer, fasting and almsgiving to walk alongside my friend Jesus as he prepares to suffer and die for me. This Lent has been an incredible journey filled with private and public prayer, intentional fasting and service opportunities for and with God’s people in need. Some days it was two steps forward and three steps back, but I always had the hope and belief that Jesus, my guiding light, was kicking me when I needed it and always loving me no matter what.
Someone said recently that Lent was never meant to be predictable; neither is the transformation it invites. My Lent has been unpredictable and transforming. It has been challenging, humbling, enlightening and a time of peace and gratitude!
May the Passion of our Lord Jesus Christ be always in our heart!
