As springtime moves us into summer in our part of the world, we see signs of life and growth all around us: in nature, in graduations, in weddings and in priestly ordinations and religious professions. High on my list of life is the gift of our mothers and fathers, those through whom God has shared with us the gift of life.
Mother’s Day is a day which encourages us to thank God for the gift of life shared with us, whether by our mothers, grandmothers, aunts, sisters or guardians, their dedication and love have cared for us, taught us and imparted to us the gift of faith.
And while Mother’s Day is a time of gratitude and joy, it can also carry quiet sorrow for those who grieve a loss, experience strained relationships, or long for what has not been. We hold in prayer all who find this day difficult, asking God to bring comfort, healing and peace to every heart.
One faith-inspired way to honor our mothers and mother-figures is by remembering them in our special Mother’s Day Novena of Masses. In the midst of both joy and pain, may this Novena be a place of remembrance, hope and gentle grace for all. I invite you to provide the names of your loved ones for this special Novena.
