God’s call often comes quietly. We may recognize it in a desire to serve, in the encouragement of someone who sees our gifts or in an encounter that opens our hearts to another person’s suffering. Recognizing that call asks something of us: time to listen, openness to change and trust in the one who calls.
As we celebrate National Vocation Awareness Week, November 1–7, I invite you to reflect on how God is calling you to live with love and purpose.
Each of us has a vocation. Each of us has something to offer that can bring compassion and healing to our world.
A Calling That Unfolds Over Time
Through Baptism, we are called to share in Christ’s life and love. That calling takes many forms: marriage and family life, single life, priesthood, the diaconate and religious life. We also express it through our work, friendships, caregiving and service to our communities.
Wherever we find ourselves, we can ask: How is my life becoming a gift for others?
The answer unfolds over time. What God asks of us in one season may look different in the next. Sometimes we are called to take a new step. Sometimes we are invited to deepen our commitment to the people and responsibilities already entrusted to us. Even in seasons of uncertainty or limitation, our lives hold meaning and our presence matters.
Living the Passionist Charism
For us as Passionists, this calling is rooted in the love of God revealed in the Passion and death of Jesus. St. Paul of the Cross invited us to keep that love alive in our hearts and share it with others. Across our Passionist Family, people live this charism in many ways, accompanying those who suffer and offering a compassionate presence to the “crucified of today.”
Making Room to Listen
During this special week, I encourage you to pause and ask:
- Where is God inviting me to love more deeply?
- Whose suffering needs my attention?
- What gifts am I being called to share?
- How might I encourage someone else as they discover their own path?
Walking Together in Faith
You are welcome to share your information through the form on this page so we can connect with you. Whether you are exploring your own calling, interested in Passionist life or seeking ways to share in our mission, we would be glad to walk with you.
May this week renew our trust that God continues to call each of us, at every age and in every circumstance. Let us pray for one another, for hearts ready to listen and for the courage to respond with love.
May the Passion of Jesus Christ be always in our hearts!
