Reflection

You are a chosen race, a royal riesthood, a holy nation;
announce the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.

-1 Peter 2:9

Today we rejoice with two of our Passionist priests who are celebrating 50 years of service to the church and their religious community.  Thank you for your service!  This celebration calls to mind those holy women and men who have answered the call to priesthood, religious life and lay ecclesial ministry.  We are indebted to these prophets who have ministered past, present and are preparing to take up the helm in days to come.

Fr. Jack Conley, CP; and Fr. John Schork, CP

Over my forty plus years in parish, youth and diocesan ministry in Michigan, Indiana and Kentucky I have reaped the benefits of serving with many of these gifted and faith-filled servants.  Our church is blessed to have pastors, teachers, mentors, spiritual directors, diocesan leaders and visionaries who minister in parishes, schools, hospitals, retreat centers and so many other areas in need.

Jesus reminds us of the rewards that come to the righteous, those prophets among us, the ones who give a cold drink to the thirsty and shelter to the traveler as the woman of influence from Shunem did for the prophet Elisha.

Blessings on all who have given up family, friend, security and comfort to embrace a life of hard work, challenge, joy-filled relationships, nurturing communities and the love of God and neighbor as we go forth together in building the kingdom.
