Blessed are they who refuse to be numb to the sufferings of others, even those halfway across the world.

When I put all that together, it is rather daunting to consider what it really means to follow Jesus. But we are not alone.

We may not be able to transform the entire world, but we can do our part where we are. I think this is what it means to “think globally and act locally.”

“This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”

As we move through the closing days of Advent, we keep in mind the call we have to make room for Jesus to enter more deeply into our hearts and lives.

This Sunday, being the Third Sunday of Advent, is referred to as Gaudete Sunday. “Gaudete” means “Rejoice!” We rejoice that Christmas is coming!

May we hold onto hope and not give in to apathy or despair.

Christ does not seek to control us but to lead us into trusting His love for us and being willing to love each other and the world.
