As we witness the Passion of Jesus in the Ukrainian refugees, let us pray that peace will once again be theirs.

Over the last several weeks, we have all watched the events unfold of the Russian aggression in Ukraine.

More than 10 million Ukrainian citizens have been displaced, either by their homes being destroyed, or they have fled their homes in search of safetyin Western Ukraine or another country.I have reached out to my Passionist Brothers in Poland to see how Holy Cross Province may be of assistance. They are coordinating with the Passionists in Smotrych, Ukraine, a town of about 2,000 people that has taken in about 1,000 refugees to provide humanitarian aid.

The Passionists have a monastery, a retreat house now being used asa refugee center, and a House of Mercy, which serves as a house for the elderly, the sick and those in hospice.

Fr. Lukasz Andrzejewski, CP, and our Polish Passionists are preparing humanitarian convoys to bring much needed supplies of food, medicine, clothing and other items to the Passionists in Smotrych.

As we witness the Passion of Jesus in the Ukrainian refugees, let us pray that peace will once again be theirs.

In the Crucified and Risen Christ,

Fr. Joe Moons, CP
Provincial Superior
