Behold the Lamb of God: God’s Love Revealed in the Passion

A father and his young son loved evening walks. One winter day, the boy slipped into a frozen lake. The father immediately jumped in, lifted his son to safety, but became trapped under the ice and died. As the boy grew older, he often returned to the lake. People asked, “Why visit a place of sadness?” He answered, “This is where I was saved. My father gave his life so I could live. Here, I remember how much I was loved.”

In a similar and infinitely greater way, when John the Baptist points and says, “Behold the Lamb of God,” he is telling us: “Look at Jesus. Look at the One who gives everything so we may live.” Jesus is the Lamb: humble, obedient, and full of love, who enters our human brokenness to bring healing, forgiveness, and reconciliation.

John testifies that he saw the Spirit descend upon Jesus, revealing Him as God’s chosen one. This reminds us that Jesus’ mission flows from the heart of God: a mission of mercy and compassion. He shows us that true power is expressed in self-giving love, patience, and humility rather than domination or force.

The Lamb of God invites us to contemplate His Passion, to see in His suffering the depth of God’s love for every person.

In the Cross, we discover patience in trials, courage in weakness, and a model for loving others unconditionally.

Today, John’s words invite us to see Jesus in our daily life, in our joys, struggles, and interactions with others. Let us open our hearts to His love and allow our lives to become living testimonies of the Lamb of God, whose suffering reveals God’s mercy and whose love transforms the world.
