The week of January 25 – 31, 2026, is “Celebrate Catholic Schools Week.” The theme for the year is Catholic Schools: United in Faith and Community.
Holy Cross Province has been engaged in Catholic Education from the time of the founding of the Province in 1906.
Passionists educated their seminarians throughout their formation: the high school seminary, the college years of philosophy and the graduate years of theology.

In 1969, The Passionists were one of the founding orders of Catholic Theological Union on the south side of Chicago. Four Passionists have served as President of the school, including the current President, Fr. Enzo del Brocco, CP.
But, more importantly, education was a vital part of Passionist ministries as well. As early as 1914, the Passionists of Sacred Heart Community and St. Agnes Parish started St. Agnes Parish School in Louisville, Kentucky. Our Passionist priests staff the church and assist St. Agnes Parish School in carrying out its ministry of service to the community.
Beginning in 1938, Passionists began Catholic grade schools in Ensley and Birmingham, Alabama. Today, Holy Family Catholic Academy is the continuation of that history.
Holy Family Cristo Rey Catholic High School is, historically, the oldest Catholic high school in Birmingham, Alabama. Holy Cross Province established Holy Family Catholic High School in 1938 to serve the African American community in a deeply segregated South. In August 2007, Holy Family High School became the first Cristo Rey Network school in the South.
Let us continue to pray for the success and good health of all our students, teachers and staff.
